Kamelot is an American melodic power metal - band with progressive classical and orchestral impact / influences.

history

The band was founded in 1991 by Thomas Youngblood and Richard Warner. In 1994 Kamelot signed a recording deal and released her debut album Eternity in August of the following year . Dominion followed in 1996 . In the spring of 1997, drummer Richard Warner and singer Mark Vanderbilt were exchanged. Kamelot found a replacement in Casey Grillo and the former Conception singer Roy Khan, who joined the ongoing production of Siege Perilous . In 1999 the newly formed band returned to the “Gate Studio” in Wolfsburg to produce their fourth album, The Fourth Legacy . In 2001 the band presented their fifth studio work, Karma . The live CD One Cold Winter's Night , released in 2006, contains live excerpts from the concert at Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo. Guests at this performance include Simone Simons (singer of the symphonic metal band Epica ), Thomas' wife Marie and Snowy Shaw (ex- King Diamond / Dream Evil ). The album Ghost Opera was released in summer 2007 and is stylistically a bit darker. The video for the theme song Ghost Opera was shot in Serbia. Ghost Opera received top marks worldwide, the German Hardline Magazine awarded z. B. 10 out of 10 points. In autumn 2010 they released their ninth studio album, Poetry for the Poisoned .

On April 21, 2011, singer Roy Khan announced that he was leaving the band for health reasons. He had already not played on the tour for Poetry for the Poisoned and was represented by Fabio Lione from Rhapsody of Fire . On June 22, 2012, they officially announced Tommy Karevik as the new singer on their website .

On February 5, 2018, the band announced that drummer Casey Grillo is leaving the band to devote himself to other tour and music offers and to deal more intensively with his business obligations. Johan Nunez was signed as a replacement. Johan Nunez already completes the band on The Shadow Theory Tour 2018.

The Black Halo, Epica

The text of The Black Halo and Epica deal with Goethe's Faust , especially Faust II and the cross-references to Greek antiquity, which has been rediscovered in the classical period. Ariel and Helena are the main actors. The music has clear classical influences, but on the other hand it is sometimes quite dark. The first song March of Mephisto from the album The Black Halo contains Growlparts, which come from the album version of the song by Shagrath (singer of the Norwegian dark metal band Dimmu Borgir ).

Trivia

  • The album Epica served the Dutch band of the same name as an inspiration when they came up with a name. Since then their singer Simone Simons has appeared on several albums as a guest singer. In return, Roy Khan took part in the Epica album Consign to Oblivion as a guest singer on the song "Trois Vierges". Simons is also in a longstanding relationship with Kamelot keyboardist Oliver Palotai .
