Oliver Palotai (born March 17, 1974 in Sindelfingen ) is a versatile German live and studio musician and member of the symphonic power metal band Kamelot . Away from the stage, he also works as a songwriter , music producer and orchestrator .

Oliver Palotai began to learn to play classical piano at the age of eight. From 1992 to 1995 he attended the Tübingen Music School and took jazz guitar lessons from Wieland Harms .

From 1991 to 1995 he worked as a freelance journalist for the Sindelfinger Zeitung and the district newspaper Böblinger Bote in the field of music journalism . He also completed practical training in the field of journalism at the district newspaper Böblinger Bote . Afterwards, however, he concentrated entirely on music and studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Zurich and with David Gazarov in Munich. He studied at the Nuremberg-Augsburg University of Music under Prof. Martin Schrack . In 2002 he received his diploma as a music teacher and in 2003 he graduated as a professional musician.

During his studies, Oliver Palotai was a member of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Baden-Württemberg from 1998 to 2001, under the direction of Prof. Bernd Konrad .

In 1999 he and the jazz quintet Keechero won first prize at Jugend Jazzt , organized by the German Music Council in Rostock. In Youth Jazz is one of the most important German competitions for young German jazz musicians. The band won a recording deal with Mons Records . With the band Psilocybe he won 3rd place at the German Rock & Pop Prize in Cologne, the largest German competition for rock and pop musicians.

In 2001 he started playing keyboard and guitar for Doro Pesch (ex- Warlock ) in her solo band. This was followed by tours around the world (2001-2007) and in 2002 work on the studio album Fight . He then appeared on the studio albums Classic Diamonds (2004), Warrior Soul (2006) and Fear No Evil (2009). He also wrote part of the orchestral arrangements for Classic Diamonds .

From 2003 to 2007 he also played as a live musician (guitar / keyboards) in various well-known metal bands, such as Circle II Circle (2003), BLAZE (2004–2007) and Uli Jon Roth (2004).

In addition to touring in the world of metal, he continued to be found in other areas of music. In 2003 he won first prize in the competition for jazz bands of the Rotary Club / HfM Nuremberg with the Paduiva trio and his own compositions. In 2004 he played keyboards with the Classic Night Symphony Orchestra and was responsible for the arrangements.

In 2005 he joined the American symphonic metal band Kamelot as a keyboardist. Regular tours around the globe followed. His first album with Kamelot was the live CD / DVD One Cold Winter's Night (2006). Since then he has also appeared on the studio albums Ghost Opera (2007), Poetry For The Poisoned (2010) and Silverthorn (2012). At Silverthorn he was also intensively involved in songwriting and orchestrations for the first time .

In 2007 he was voted Best Keyboardist on Metal-Temple.net . In the same year Palotai formed Sons of Seasons , his first band. A year later, the band got a record deal with Napalm Records . Since then, the debut album Gods Of Vermin (2009) and the successor Magnisphyricon (2011) have been released.

In the past few years, Oliver Palotai's focus has shifted a little from mainly working as a live musician to working in the studio. Since 2012 Oliver Palotai has also been working as a music teacher at the School for Music, Theater and Dance (SMTT) in Sindelfingen.

In October 2013, he and his long-time partner, Simone Simons , had their first child Vincent P.
