Simone Simons (born January 17, 1985 in Hoensbroek , full name Simone Johanna Maria Simons ) is a Dutch singer. She became known with the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica . Your voice is soprano .

Life

When Simons was 10 years old, she received flute lessons for a year, followed by jazz / pop singing lessons . When she was 15, she was recommended a CD by Nightwish , after which she decided to take classical singing lessons. At the end of 2002 she became the singer of Epica (then still under the name Sahara Dust ).

A hallmark of their live performances is a fan that is directed from the edge of the stage towards them and is intended to compensate for sweating during the performance. However, the upward wind also significantly affects their performance .

On January 10, 2008, Epica announced on their website that Simons was suffering from an infection with MRSA and that most of the upcoming appearances had to be canceled. After a further deterioration in health, the band decided to forego shows completely until their full recovery. Only the US tour at the end of April / beginning of May 2008 was carried out as planned. Long-time Epica guest musician Amanda Somerville stepped in as the singer .

Since mid-May 2008 the band has been performing again with Simone Simons.
