Elize Ryd (* 15. October 1984 in Värnamo as Hanna Elise Isabella Maj Höstblomma Ryd ) is a Swedish singer , songwriter and dancer . She has been the singer of the Swedish metal band Amaranthe since 2008 . Your voice is soprano .

biography

Childhood and youth

Elize Ryd grew up in a musical family with two siblings. She started singing and dancing at the age of three; her talent quickly became apparent. She took dance lessons and made her first public appearance at the age of four.

At the age of 13 she won a talent competition in Gothenburg as the youngest participant and received an award for “Most Promising Singer”.

After graduating from school, she decided to pursue a musical career and from 2000 to 2003 attended the Kongahälla School, Musical Line . Here, too, she received an award for the “most beautiful voice”.

The way to amaranthe

With rock music Elize Ryd first came into contact when making an offer of the Swedish power metal band Falconer accepted to participate as a guest singer in the recordings for the next album of the band.

After working at Cabaret Lorensberg in Gothenburg, she met Jake E. Lundberg from the band Dreamland and Olof Mörck from Dragonland . She recorded songs with both bands and made friends with Lundberg and Mörck.

In 2007 she graduated from Gothenburg's Performing Arts School and in 2008 joined a project on which Jake E. Lundberg and Olof Mörck were working. Shortly thereafter, the project was named Avalanche ; In 2009 the band was renamed Amaranthe .

Breakthrough with amaranthe

In 2009, the band released an EP entitled Leave Everything Behind .

The band's debut album, entitled Amaranthe , was released in April 2011 and reached number 16 in the Finnish and number 35 in the Swedish charts . In the same year followed European tours with the bands Kamelot (spring) and Hammerfall (autumn). In 2012 the band performed at Wacken Open Air and other festivals.

In March 2013 the second album The Nexus was released , which reached number 4 in the Finnish and number 6 in the Swedish charts. This was followed by a European tour with the Finnish power metal band Stratovarius . In July 2013 the band completed their first North American tour with a total of eleven concerts in the USA and Canada. In spring 2014, a European tour followed under the title The Invincible Tour 2014 .

The third studio album Massive Addictive was released on October 17th, 2014 in Europe.

Cooperation with Kamelot

In 2010 Elize Ryd received the offer to accompany the melodic power metal band Kamelot as a tour singer. In 2011 she rejoined Kamelot and supported the band as a guest singer on a world tour through North America, South America and Europe.

In 2012 she participated as a guest singer on the recordings for the album Silverthorn by Kamelot. She also appeared in the music video for the song Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife) .

Trivia

Her musical influences include Queen and ABBA in particular .

In addition to her long-term collaboration with Kamelot, Elize Ryd also took part in numerous other projects and studio recordings by various bands (including Takida , Dreamstate, Dragonland, Timo Tolkki 's Avalon).

At the opening ceremony of the Gothia Cup 2012 Elize Ryd sang the song Euphoria by Loreen .

On September 28, 2012, Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz ( Arch Enemy , Ex- The Agonist , Kamelot ) had a short-term guest appearance at a concert of the symphonic metal band Nightwish in Denver to replace their sick singer Anette Olzon .

In December 2013 Elize Ryd had an appearance on the Finnish TV channel Yle TV1 when she sang Ave Maria in a duet with Marco Hietala (Nightwish).

On December 4, 2014, the Christmas carol Christmas Is Here was released. It is a duet by Elize Ryd and Tony Kakko ( Sonata Arctica ).
