history

Foundation and debut album (2008–2012)

Amaranthe was founded in 2008 by Jake E. Lundberg and Olof Mörck as Avalanche . Shortly afterwards they were joined by Elize Ryd , Andy Solveström and Morten Løwe Sørensen. In the same year the band released their first demo Leave Everything Behind with Johan Andreassen on the electric bass , but had to change their name to Amaranthe in 2009 due to copyright claims.

The debut album Amaranthe was released in 2011 via Spinefarm Records , a subsidiary of the Universal Music Group . In autumn, Amaranthe supported Hammerfall on their European tour. A festival tour for 2012 was then announced, including a performance at the Wacken Open Air .

The Nexus and Massive Addictive (since 2012)

In 2012 Amaranthe worked together with producer Jacob Hansen in the Hansen Studios in Ribe on their second studio album The Nexus , which was released in Germany on March 22, 2013. The video for the single of the same name was released on January 25th. In addition, a European tour in March and April 2013 was announced together with Stratovarius as a co-headliner.

On October 18, 2013 it was announced that Andy Solveström had left Amaranthe for personal reasons. The previous live member Henrik Englund has been added as the new singer.

In spring 2014 the band began recording their third studio album, Massive Addictive , which was released in Germany on October 17, 2014. The first single, Drop Dead Cynical , was released on September 9, 2014.

The fourth studio album, Maximalism , was released on October 21, 2016 .

In November 2016, Jake E. Lundberg took a break from the band. At the beginning of February 2017, he finally announced his final exit.

style

Amaranthe's musical style is composed of many typical elements of different metal genres, which are combined with pop- like choruses. On the one hand, the band draws on elements of Melodic Death Metal , such as the change between guttural and clear vocals or the combination of hard guitar riffs with keyboard melodies or elements from electronic music , on the other hand they use fast tempo and high vocals for the power Metal common components. Another characteristic of the band are the three singers that can be heard alternately. The music style was compared to a mix of In Flames , Freedom Call , Children of Bodom , Blood Stain Child and Roxette .
