Alissa White-Gluz (born July 31, 1985 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian singer and songwriter . She was a founding member of the Canadian metal band The Agonist . Since 2014 she has been the lead singer of the Swedish metal band Arch Enemy .

biography

Musical career

In 2004 Alissa White-Gluz was one of the founding members of The Tempest, where she was active as lead singer and songwriter. In 2007 the band changed their name to The Agonist at their request. In the same year, the debut album Once Only Imagined was released . Two more albums and numerous tours followed , including with bands such as Epica and Kamelot .

On March 17th, 2014 it was announced that Alissa White-Gluz will be the new singer of the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy, replacing Angela Gossow . Her first album with Arch Enemy was released on June 9, 2014 under the title War Eternal . In addition to her debut as a singer for the band, she wrote the lyrics for a total of five songs on the album.

Guest appearances

As a guest singer, she appeared in particular with the band Kamelot, with whom she has had numerous live appearances since 2011. In 2012 she starred in the music video for the song Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife) by Kamelot. She also took part as a guest singer on the Kamelot album Haven , released in May 2015, and also appeared in the music video for the piece Liar Liar (Wastelands Monarchy) .

On September 28, 2012, she and Elize Ryd ( Amaranthe , Kamelot ) made a short-term guest appearance at a concert of the symphonic metal band Nightwish in Denver to replace their sick singer Anette Olzon . She had other guest appearances with the band Delain . At Wacken Open Air in 2016 she performed together with the Tarja project of the former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen.

A special feature is their guttural singing ; however, she also practices plain singing.

Her musical influences are particularly her predecessor at Arch Enemy, Angela Gossow.

Alissa White-Gluz is committed to human rights , animal welfare and environmental protection . She is committed to veganism .

The US music magazine Revolver voted Alissa White-Gluz one of the hottest chicks in metal , i.e. one of the most attractive metal musicians, several times . In an interview with the magazine about the meaning of the song First Day In Hell , she revealed that her grandparents were Holocaust survivors and that the dangers of religious radicalization contributed to her being an atheist herself .

She has been dating the American rock musician Paul Doyle Caiafa since 2014 .
