The Root of All Evil is a compilation album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy , which contains new recordings of songs from the band's first three albums ( Black Earth , Stigmata and Burning Bridges ). It was released by Century Media on September 25, 2009 . The album is available as a jewelcase CD, limited edition mediabook, download and LP . This album was recorded by the band themselves, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap .

Emergence

Although the pieces were already written, the band said it took some time to complete the record. The pieces had to be selected and rehearsed in order to “breathe new life” into them. Then it was recorded in various studios in Sweden , with Sneap drummer Daniel Erlandsson working as a sound engineer .

reception

Andreas Stappert from Rock Hard answered the question about the necessity of this re-release with “yes and no”, since on the one hand the original versions of the pieces were “small classics” of Melodic Death Metal. On the other hand, some pieces "clearly benefited from the more powerful sound and the plus of aggression". He awarded 8.5 out of ten points. Phil Freeman of allmusic .com named Angela Gossow "the best thing that could ever happen to Arch Enemy." However, this release is "not essential" because some songs have already been interpreted by her on live DVDs. The songwriting is also much more raw than with the newer material. The rating was three and a half stars out of five.
