Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal - band in 2002 by the former Within Temptation keyboardist was founded by Martijn Westerholt.
Band history
Delain was founded in 2002 by Martijn Westerholt , the ex-keyboardist of the metal band Within Temptation , after he left them in 2001 due to an illness with glandular fever . Its founder Robert Westerholt is Martijn's brother. After Martijn Westerholt 2002 together with the singer Anne Invernizzi, the guitarists Roy van Enkhuyzen and Frank van der Meijden, the bassist Martijn Willemsen and the drummer Jimmy Revson as well as the guest George Oosthoek (from the band Orphanage - death growling) a four song song The demo with the name Amenity had been recorded, the project was initially suspended until 2005. The demo can hardly be found today. Even Martijn Westerholt no longer has a copy.
After Charlotte Wessels (vocals) joined the band in 2005 , Delain was able to sign a record deal with the Roadrunner Records label that same year . The band then recorded their debut album Lucidity , which was finally released on September 4, 2006. For the album they engaged various well-known guest musicians: Ariën van Weesenbeek from Epica (drums), as well as their former member Ad Sluijter (guitar), George Oosterhoek (Grunts) and Guus Eikens (guitar), both former members of Orphanage , Sharon den Adel von Within Temptation (vocals), Marco Hietala from Nightwish (bass, vocals) as well as Liv Kristine from Leaves' Eyes (vocals) and Jan Yrlund (guitar). The single Frozen , published on March 10, 2007, reached number 36 in the Dutch sales charts.
The band project actually only consists of Martijn Westerholt and Charlotte Wessels. For live performances, however, they are supported by other musicians, from 2006 initially by Ronald Landa (grunts and guitar), Ray van Lente (guitar), Robert van der Loo (bass) and Sander Zoer (drums). Ray van Lente left the formation in the summer of 2007. On March 20, 2009, April Rain , the band's second album, was released. In the same year Ronald Landa left the band. His successor on guitar was Ewout Pieters, who only stayed until 2010. In the same year Rob von der Loo separated from the band due to lack of time and was replaced by Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije. The vacant position of guitarist was filled in 2011 by Timo Somers. In this line-up, the albums We are the others and Interlude were recorded with the participation of guest musicians. We Are The Others was released on June 1, 2012. On May 3, 2013, the fourth album Interlude was released ; In addition to new songs, it also contains reinterpretations of own and other songs as well as six live versions and, in the Limited First Edition, also a bonus DVD. On April 4, 2014, the album The Human Contradiction was released , which includes a guest contribution by Marco Hietala ( Nightwish ) and Alissa White-Gluz ( Arch Enemy ). On August 26th, 2016 the new album Moonbathers was released. Here, too, there is a guest contribution by Alissa White-Gluz. On the occasion of their 10th band anniversary, a remastered album from their debut album Lucidity has also been released. In addition to the remastered version, this album also contains other live recordings.
