Dream Evil is a Swedish heavy metal band that was formed in Gothenburg in 1999 .
history
The Swedish producer Fredrik Nordström ( Dimmu Borgir , Hammerfall , In Flames , The Haunted ) had the desire to have his own band. During a vacation in Greece he met the Greek guitarist Gus G. and shortly afterwards invited him to Sweden. The two were soon sitting in Fredrik Nordström's studio and writing their first songs. When the first basic structures of the songs were in place, they were looking for more members for the band. The drums were occupied by Snowy Shaw (including ex- King Diamond ), the vocals with Niklas Isfeldt ( background singer for Hammerfall) and the bass with Peter Stalfors. After some back and forth, the founding members came together and called themselves Dragonslayer. In Century Media a record label was found, which suggested to the four musicians, however, to name their first album Dragonslayer and to change the name of the band. After a short thought, this request was granted and the band name was changed to Dream Evil. The first album received positive reviews in April 2002, and several festival appearances followed.
Shortly after the release of the second album Evilized , they went on a European tour with Hammerfall in February / March 2003 . The MCD Children of the Night was released in October 2003 and contained four songs and a live video. The band's third album, The Book of Heavy Metal , was released in March 2004. Shortly afterwards there were changes in the line-up: Gus G. left Dream Evil and was replaced by Mark U Black. Together with their new guitarist, Dream Evil toured the concert halls as the opening act for Saxon . In mid-2005, Niklas Isfeldt had health problems with his voice that almost ended his career. However, he recovered and was able to resume work a few months later. In January 2006, a month before the fourth album was recorded, Snowy Shaw left the band after an internal dispute and took all the songs he had written with him. Nevertheless, he and Dream Evil announced that the breakup went without bad blood.
At the end of June 2006 the band announced on their homepage that they had found a new drummer in Pat Power (aka Patrik Jerksten) and were working on a new album called United ; it finally appeared in the autumn of the same year. At the end of 2007 Dream Evil announced that guitarist Mark U Black has left the band for family reasons and will be replaced by Dannee Demon, who left the band for personal reasons in 2013 and was replaced by the returned Mark U Black. In mid-2008 Gold Medal in Metal was released. The double album contains new songs, but also old bonus tracks, mostly from Japan. It is accompanied by a DVD that contains videos and interviews as well as a live recording of the Sticky Fingers concert in Gothenburg on November 25, 2006.
