Mark Jansen (born December 15, 1978 in Reuver ) is a Dutch metal musician.

In 1995 he founded the death metal band Apocalypse (later: After Forever ) together with Sander Gommans , in which he also worked as a songwriter. In 2001, after the release of the album Decipher , he left the band to form a new group called Epica with singer Simone Simons , his girlfriend at the time. In addition to the guitar, he supports the female mezzo-soprano voice with grunts and screams .

In his band's fourth album, The Divine Conspiracy from 2007, there are more heavy sounds, especially in the guitar parts. In Epica's fifth album, Design Your Universe , the Grunts were much more present than on previous albums, so that, for example, the EMP review drew a comparison with Dimmu Borgir . In 2010 Mark announced that he had formed a new band called MaYaN , who released their debut album Quarterpast in 2011. In contrast to Epica, Mark only sings in MaYaN, but does not play guitar. But he remains loyal to his main band Epica.
