After Forever was a symphonic metal band from the Netherlands that was formed in 1995 and split up in 2009.

history

Floor Jansen at the Masters of Rock 2007

At the time of its founding in 1995 by Mark Jansen and Sander Gommans, After Forever's style of music was predominantly Death Metal- oriented, with influences from classical music. When Floor Jansen joined the band, the style became more varied, but the metal elements were always retained. The first album Prison of Desire (2000) got positive feedback from the press, which the band supported.

With the release of Decipher in 2001, After Forever gained international recognition. With success they gave concerts in Europe and South America and played in almost every possible place in the Netherlands . However, after the album was released, mastermind Mark Jansen left the band and formed the group Epica . In 2003 the remaining members recorded the mini album Exordium , which contained a small DVD and gave a little foretaste of the concept album Invisible Circles released in 2004 .

Invisible Circles reached number 26 in the Dutch album charts and received good reviews in Germany, which was also an important market for After Forever. In September 2005 the fourth album Remagine appears . It shows After Forever much more catchy than on the three previous albums. After separating from their label Transmission Records in June 2006, they released a best of After Forever shortly thereafter . It is called Mea Culpa and contains songs from previous releases as well as unreleased material.

In October 2006 the band signed a contract with the German label Nuclear Blast . After a foretaste of the new album was released on March 23, 2007 with the single Energize Me , it was released on April 20, 2007 under the name After Forever . Jeff Waters was hired as guest musicians by Annihilator and the German heavy metal singer Doro Pesch . It also worked with the Prague Symphony Orchestra . The album jumped to number six in the Dutch charts , and it also reached a chart position in Germany (# 98). The track Equally Destructive was released as a DVD single on September 21, 2007 .

In spring 2008 the band announced that they would like to take a break for at least a year. The reason for this was Sander Gommans' serious illness in 2007. At the beginning of February 2009, however, the group announced that they had broken up because the individual members wanted to break new ground.
