Tanzwut is in 1997 Berlin was founded in medieval rock - band .
history
The original band consisted partly of members of the medieval music group Corvus Corax . Singer Teufel and Micha Rhein (later In Extremo ) came up with the idea of not just relying on instruments that sounded like the Middle Ages when they were out and about as the medieval band Pullarius Furcillo . After the breakup, everyone carried the thought with them. In 1997 the Tanzwut project was founded. The name is borrowed from the Middle Ages : when the plague raged in Europe in the middle of the 14th century , people sometimes danced ecstatically until people collapsed or died. One had the dance frenzy to escape exhaustion and suffering.
In March 1999, the self-titled debut album Tanzwut was released on the EMI label Electrola . The album was produced by Jon Caffery , who was already responsible for albums for Die Toten Hosen and Einstürzende Neubauten .
After some changes in the line-up, a permanent formation was formed again in October 2010.
On July 8, 2011, Morus et diabolus, an acoustic medieval music album without electric guitars, was released.
style
music
On the first four studio albums, the elements of the Middle Ages are greatly reduced except for the bagpipes . Instead, elements of the New German Hardship are in the foreground. With deeply sung German lyrics, elements of electro and pronounced riffing , these albums are close to the genre Neue Deutsche Hütze .
The album Morus et Diabolus , released in 2011 after the separation of Corvus Corax and Tanzwut, is an acoustic album from the Middle Ages. After the separation of the two previously closely related groups, the musicians also appear as a medieval band under the name Tanzwut . The roots of almost all band members have been in the music of the Middle Ages for more than 25 years .
Electronic elements have been avoided on the album White Nights , instead the bagpipes have come to the fore. This makes the album much closer to medieval rock than the first albums.
Texts
The texts are written in modern German . The debut album Tanzwut contained occasional allusions to medieval texts and the music of the medieval scene . The song Exkremento critically refers to the medieval rock band In Extremo . The stanzas of the song Resurrection are composed in parts of a New High German translation of the Old High German second Merseburg magic . The refrain is the first stanza of the first Merseburg magic spell in Old High German .
The following texts deal primarily with emotions, primarily love , interpersonal relationships as well as parties and celebrations. Medieval elements can hardly be found.
Image and appearance
When performing live, the band relies on brilliant stage shows. In addition to elaborate outfits and choreographies , the band member Teufel also plays a role, who, with his shaved head and tufts of red hair set up like horns, serves as the optical focus of the band.
useful information
The title Iron Wedding is one of the unofficial hymns of the football club 1. FC Union Berlin and is often played at home games in the An der Alten Försterei stadium.
In the title Götterfunken Tanzwut quote Goethe's Faust to the melody of Beethoven's 9th Symphony .
The song Please Please is a cover of Die Ärzte .
In the title Eisenmann from the first album, the melody and name match the song Iron Man by Black Sabbath .
