Angra is a power metal - band from Brazil .
history
Angra ("goddess of fire" in Brazilian mythology) was founded in 1991 by Andre Matos and Rafael Bittencourt. Luis Mariutti, Kiko Loureiro and Marco Antunes joined them.
A few weeks later they recorded the Reaching Horizons demo . When the debut album Angels Cry was released in 1993 , Marco Antunes had already left the band. That's why Alex Holzwarth ( Sieges Even , Rhapsody of Fire ) plays the drums as a session musician on this album . Shortly after the recordings, Ricardo Confessori joined as the new drummer. The two albums Holy Land and Fireworks were released in this line-up .
In 2000 Andre, Luis and Ricardo left the band due to differences with the management and formed a new group called Shaman together with Luis' brother Hugo . They were replaced by Eduardo Falaschi, Aquiles Priest and Felipe Andreoli.
In 2001 another album was released with Rebirth , and a double live album was released from the following tour in 2002. In 2004 the concept album Temple of Shadows , which tells the story of a crusader, was released. On this, among others, Hansi Kürsch ( Blind Guardian ) and Kai Hansen ( Gamma Ray ) are represented as guest musicians. Her album Aurora Consurgens was released in 2006 and is inspired by the alchemical treatise of the same name from the 15th century, which is often incorrectly attributed to Thomas Aquinas .
Fabio Lione has been the band's singer since 2013 . It was originally presented as an interim solution. In May 2014 Ricardo Confessori announced that he would leave the band again. He was later replaced by the drummer Bruno Valverde.
