Even as a child, Snider sang in the church and school choir and completed classical training as a countertenor . But he soon gave up classical music in favor of rock music, as in his opinion the two musical styles worked too much against each other. He developed a penchant for unusual clothing and soon put into practice his desire to play in a band.

Music career

In 1976 he joined the fledgling band Twisted Sister and released several successful albums. After the band split up in 1987, Snider tried different projects. In 1992 he founded the band Widowmaker , with whom he released two albums. In the mid to late 1990s, Snider was on tour with the twisted sister tribute band Dee Snider's SMF's . The cast included drummer AJ Pero and guitarist Keith Alexander . The band released a live album in 1997 called Twisted Forever - SMF's Live .

In 2000, a solo album Never Let the Bastards Wear You Down with previously unreleased songs was released. Snider is currently hosting the House of Hair radio show , which is broadcast nationwide in the United States. In 2003, Twisted Sisters reunited and started their first European tour in many years. He re-recorded several Broadway songs in a duet with Cyndi Lauper and Clay Aiken ; these songs are on the album Dee Does Broadway , which will be released on May 8, 2012 via Razor & Tie. In 2015, Snider announced that he had recorded three new songs and that he wanted to publish them in his own collection called Rock And Roll Ain't Dead - Dee Snider Essentials 1983-2015 . He then made the title To Hell and Back available as a free download on his website. In 2016, Twisted Sister broke up again.

Acting career

He also wrote, produced and starred for the film Dee Snider's Strangeland (1998). In 2012 he appeared in the comedy horror romance series Holliston and hosted it at the Chicago Fear Festival.

Private

Snider lives with his wife Suzette, to whom he has been married since 1981, his three sons Jesse, Shane and Cody and his daughter Cheyenne in Setauket , New York . On May 8, 2012, Snider will publish his memoir "Shut Up and Give Me the Mic: A Twisted Memoir" via Gallery Books.
