Dio Disciples is an American band that was formed after the death of Ronnie James Dio . It consisted first of its ex-band members and two singers (e.g. Tim "Ripper" Owens ). With the departure of Rudy Sarzo, only the term Friends of Dio is used for members in promotional texts .

history

After Ronnie James Dio died of cancer in May 2010, his band Dio broke up. On May 18, 2011, the foundation of the Dio Disciples was announced. A tour soon followed. The first concert took place in Moscow, and shortly afterwards there were also appearances at the Download Festival in Donington Park , the Sauna Open Air and the Graspop Metal Meeting . Doro Pesch was also present in Spain and Italy . After this tour, Rudy Sarzo had to be replaced by James LoMenzo, as Sarzo went on tour with Blue Öyster Cult . In the summer of 2012 the band played again at festivals such as B. Wacken Open Air and Bloodstock Open Air . Bjorn Englen was on bass. Since Tim "Ripper" Owens was not available for at least one concert in 2013, Mark Boals ( Yngwie Malmsteen , Uli Jon Roth ) was hired as a substitute singer. In 2013, original Dio drummer Vinnie Appice represented the regular drummer Simon Wright at two concerts in Canada and three concerts in the USA .
