Steve Brown (* 13. September 1968 in Manchester ) is an English jazz - drummer .

Brown began playing the drums when he was 13; At the age of 19 he became a member of local bands. First he took lessons in Manchester, then in New York City with John Riley and Carl Allen . In 1992 he went on tour with Harry Allen in Europe and the USA. As part of Jim Hunt's quartet , he was a finalist in the European Jazz Competition in 1993 . In the next few years he worked with David Newton in the Far East, but also in Spain and France. In 1996 he moved to London, where he made his record debut. He has accompanied numerous American soloists such as Conte Candoli , Billy Childers, Kenny Davern , Harry Edison , Art Farmer , Teddy Edwards , George Masso , Ralph Sutton and Bill Watrous . Since 2000 he has been a member of Scott Hamilton's quartet , with whom he recorded four albums and toured internationally several times. He also belonged to the bands of Bruce Adams , Alan Barnes , Mark Nightingale , Stacey Kent , Mike Carr , Andy Panayi , Harvey Wainapel or Duncan McKay. He also worked with Stan Tracey , Harry Beckett , Guy Barker , Martin Taylor and Claire Martin .

Brown recorded 92 records between 1996 and 2015. He can also be heard on the album The Cobbler's Waltz by Warren Vaché / Alan Barnes, two albums by Junior Mance for Trio Records and on Karen Sharp's album Spirit . Between 2008 and 2014 he won the British Jazz Awards for best drummer every year .
