To Be with You is a 1990 song by American hard rock band Mr. Big , written by Eric Martin and David Grahame. It appeared on the 1991 album Lean into It .
history
In To Be with You is about a man who has fallen in love with a woman, in turn, the heart was broken after a separation. When Eric Martin was in his sophomore year of high school, he was friends with a classmate and his older sister. She gave him advice about school days and explained the typical problems of puberty. Eric Martin had fallen in love with her, but estimated his chances with her as slim and therefore he dedicated the song to her.
Eric Martin wrote a rough version of the song in his youth; Martin later worked on the melody with guitarist Paul Gilbert . It came to completion with David Grahame, who was working as a songwriter for the label Atlantic Records at the time.
The Dog Turner Music release was on December 21, 1991, in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and Belgium the " soft rock number " was a number-one- Hit . In the 1992 chartbreaker, Gilbert also contributed a motif-based solo to the vocal melody.

The director of the music video is Nancy Bennett, in the video the band performs the song in a railroad car. The first half of the clip was shot in black and white , the second in color.
