The Quietschboys is a German-speaking rock band from Frankfurt am Main . It was founded in 1988 in the western suburb of Sossenheim by Hans-Jürgen Denk (drums), Klaus Kaffine (guitar and vocals), Thomas Schwarzer (bass) and Bernd Seibel (guitar and vocals). In the founding phase, the four musicians primarily covered German-language titles by artists such as Udo Lindenberg , Rio Reiser , Marius Müller-Westernhagen , Rodgau Monotones and Herbert Grönemeyer . As the musicians moved more and more towards hard rock and heavy metal in the following months , it quickly became apparent that there was hardly any German-language offer in this sector. Therefore, musically, English-language titles were used and these were labeled with German sub-texts in Frankfurt dialect . In terms of content, they took the comedic path and thus created a completely new style of music, comedy rock. The band quickly increased their popularity in the Rhine-Main area , as they were the only band in Germany with a one-armed drummer. In 1998 Thomas Schwarzer and Hans-Jürgen Denk left the band at their own request, because the workload and the order intensity had become too high for them. Otto Reinhard (drums) and Jürgen Schwalbach (bass) joined the band for them. In this formation the band played their biggest concerts so far in 2000 at Rock im Park in Nuremberg and Rock am Ring in the Eifel . In the same year, however, Otto Reinhard and Jürgen Schwalbach were separated again due to personal differences. Founding member Thomas Schwarzer returned to the band and brought the drummer Ralf Deutscher into the band. When it was discovered in 2010 that the lyrics had drifted more and more in an ambiguous and sometimes slippery direction, the concept was changed and focused more in the direction of comedy. In 2013 Thomas Schwarzer left the band again at his own request to devote himself to new tasks and hobbies. Bassist Emmanuel "Emil" Abrigada joined the band for him.

Band name

The band name Die Quietschboys is a modification of the fictional band Die Quietschbeus from the German puppet show series Hallo Spencer , which was produced by NDR from 1979 to 2001 , and whose name was also an allusion to the world-famous band The Beach Boys . Die Quietschbeus was the band in the puppet show and sang a suitable song on the topic in almost every episode.
