Lean into It is the second studio album by the American hard rock band Mr. Big . It contains the largest ever single - success the group To Be with You .
Emergence
The album was recorded with producer Kevin Elson in the Rumbo Recorders studio in Los Angeles , further recordings took place in Cherokee Studios and Fantasy Studios. With this album, Mr. Big made his international breakthrough in 1991. The album contained among others the title Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy , the subtitled The Electric Drill Song was because bassist Billy Sheehan and guitarist Paul Gilbert their instruments each with a cordless drill the brand Makita played.
For the track CDFF - Lucky This Time , "CDFF" refers to the intro of the track - it is a very fast played version of the song Addicted to That Rush from the group's debut album ; "CDFF" stands for "CD Fast Forward" ("CD - fast forward"). Lucky This Time was written by Jeff Paris; the "CDFF" part refers to him. The band points out in the CD's liner notes that Paris is one of the fastest speaking people the band members know.
The later hit single To Be with You was also included on the album, the group reached the top 10 worldwide ; in Germany , Switzerland , Austria and the USA the title reached number one in the charts - only in Great Britain it only reached number three. The single Just Take My Heart , released afterwards, was also able to hold its own in the charts: 23 weeks and number 16 on the Hot 100 were also impressive.
Green Tinted Sixties Mind , the third single that was released, only reached number 72 in the UK charts, where it was no longer listed after a week.
Lean into It made it to number 9 in the album charts in Germany. In the US it climbed to number 15 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the hit list for 38 weeks.
Cover
The cover of the album shows a photo taken after the spectacular railway accident at Gare Montparnasse in Paris on October 22, 1895. A train from the Compagnie des Chemins de fer de l'Ouest from Granville to Paris did not stop at Montparnasse station in Paris as planned, but ran over the platform after the buffer stop and then broke through the glass wall of the station building. A photo of the band is printed on the back of the cover.
publication
Lean into It was sold in identical versions in Europe and the US; in Japan the album contained an additional song ( bonus track ) entitled Love Makes You Strong . In 2009 the album was re-released and also contained the bonus track originally only on the Japanese version. In addition, the re-release was equipped with early versions of Alive and Kickin ' and Green Tinted Sixties Mind as well as a reggae version of To Be with You .
reception
The German magazine Rock Hard wrote about Lean into It :
"MR. BIG are not 'just another AOR band' - no, their songs thrive on the brilliant ideas of the two fretboard acrobats who give the compositions an enormous drive. Although the two sometimes have a tendency to focus too much on their abilities, all in all the real compositions in which MR are outweighed. Show BIG from their chocolate side. Regardless of whether it's Alive and Kickin , Green Tinted 60's Mind or Never Say Never - each of these songs demonstrates that you don't have to act according to given clichés in order to tailor a really good song. "
