Makita is a Japanese company that makes power tools. It has ten production sites in Japan, Canada (since 1980), Brazil (1981), the USA (1985), Germany (1991), Great Britain (1981), China (1995), Romania (2007) and Thailand (2011). The range includes over 1000 petrol, electric, cordless and compressed air tools, stationary woodworking machines and garden tools worldwide, 700 of which plus sets, variants and SystemKIT are available in Germany.
history
The company was founded in 1915 by Mosaburo Makita as an armature winding and engine repair shop in Anjō , Japan. In 1958, Makita began marketing portable power planers in Japan and became a power tool manufacturer itself the following year. In 1969 Makita launched the first cordless drill with the model 6500D. Makita has been present in Germany with its own sales office, Makita Werkzeug GmbH, since 1977 . Makita began producing its own pneumatic tools in 1981. The Hamburg-based chainsaw manufacturer Dolmar was bought in 1991.
In January 2011 Makita relocated its German headquarters from Duisburg to Ratingen and operates a logistics center and service department there.
Market segments
Makita offers gasoline and power tools for craftsmen. Lower-priced products of the sub-brand maktec by Makita have been manufactured especially for do-it-yourselfers since 2002 and have also been sold in Germany since 2011. The brand has been called Makita mt since 2016 .
