Matthew Heafy

Matt Heafy (2017)

Matthew Kiichi "Matt" Heafy (born January 26, 1986 in Iwakuni , Japan ) is an American singer and guitarist . He is the lead singer of the metal bands Trivium and Capharnaum . Heafy's mother is Japanese, his father is Irish with one German parent.

Heafy at Nova Rock 2014

Matt Heafy was of his current bandmates at a talent show at the Teague Middle School in Altamonte Springs ( Florida discovered). Heafy played and sang Metallica's song "No Leaf Clover" there . After Heafy joined Trivium, he took over the rhythm guitar and vocals. Together with lead guitarist Corey Beaulieu he is doing the songwriting for Trivium.

He won the Golden God Award at the 2006 Metal Hammer Golden God Awards.

Heafy is currently writing a column for Guitar World magazine . He is supported by his bandmate Corey Beaulieu . The first column appeared in the August 2006 issue.

Tomorrow is Monday

After Ember to Inferno , Matt decided to experiment with post-hardcore music and formed a joke band called Tomorrow Is Monday . The band released only one song: Head on Collision with a Rosebush Catching Fire . Matt stated in an interview with Rock Sound magazine in the UK that the song was written, recorded and produced in just an hour.

Roadrunner United

In 2005 the label Roadrunner Records released the album Roadrunner United for the 25th anniversary . Alongside Joey Jordison ( Slipknot ), Robb Flynn ( Machine Head ) and Dino Cazares ( Fear Factory ), Heafy was one of the four “team captains” involved in the songwriting. For the project, the four captains selected 57 musicians from 45 former and current Roadrunner bands, who recorded and recorded the written tracks. In many cases, the songs written by Heafy were considered the best on the album.

"Signature" guitars

In the spring of 2013, the guitar manufacturer Epiphone dedicated two signature models to Heafy. A Les Paul Custom and a Les Paul Custom as 7-string. Both guitars have a mahogany neck and body with a flat maple top. The guitars are available in black (Ebony) and white (Snowflake). Both guitars put on active pickups from EMG . While the 6- string model has an EMG-85 (neck) and EMG-81 (bridge) humbucker , the 7-string model has an EMG-707 (neck) and an EMG-81-7 (bridge).
