Stone Sour is an American metal band formed in 1992 by Corey Taylor , also a singer with Slipknot .
Band history
The Beginnings and Stone Sour (1992-2005)
The band was founded in 1992 by Corey Taylor , singer of the American nu-metal band Slipknot , and was shut down between 1992 and 1997 after a few demo recordings . In 2002 Josh Rand approached Corey Taylor with a few songs, after which the two began to write new songs for the next 18 months to revive the project "Stone Sour". The band was called back together and released their debut album Stone Sour ten years after their formation . The songs Get Inside in 2003 and Inhale in 2004 were each nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category.
Come What (ever) May (2006-2008)
In March 2006, drummer Joel Ekman separated from the band, his successor was Roy Mayorga, who was formerly a drummer with Soulfly . The reasons for Ekmans to drop out were that his son had been diagnosed with glioma and he wanted to help him. On July 28, 2006, the new album Come What (ever) May was released , which was named "Album of the Month" by the German heavy metal magazines Rock Hard and Metal Hammer . Looking back on 2006, Metal Hammer named Come What (ever) May “Album of the Year”. The opener of the album 30 / 30-150 was again nominated in 2007 for a Grammy for Best Metal Performance . In the end, however, the song had to admit defeat to Slayers Eyes of the Insane .
Audio Secrecy (2009-2011)
In the summer of 2009 a count-up was published on the band's official website. On December 1, 2009, Corey Taylor announced in an interview that the new album will be produced by Rob Cavallo from February 2010. However, he did not disclose any further details. With the move into the studio, Stone Sour opened an official Twitter profile through which the creation process of the new album can be followed. On January 12, 2010, a press release followed that the band would record their third album with Nick Raskulinecz in the Blackbird Studio in Nashville. Raskulinecz had already produced the previous album Come What (ever) May . On June 5th and 6th, the band announced at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park that the third album will be released on September 7th, 2010. In fact, Audio Secrecy was released in Germany on September 3rd on Roadrunner Records.
House of Gold and Bones (2012-2017)
On March 20, 2012, work began on a new album. Frontman Taylor described the style of the album as a cross between Pink Floyd's album The Wall and Alice in Chains ' album Dirt . Shortly afterwards it was announced that longtime bassist Shawn Economaki had left the band. The album was recorded by Rachel Bolan, who is the bassist for Skid Row and who helped the band out in the studio. On June 11th, Corey Taylor also announced on his Twitter profile that the new album would be called House of Gold & Bones . Since 24 songs were recorded for the album, the album will consist of two parts with 12 songs each. The first part was published on October 19, 2012. House of Gold & Bones - Part 2 was released on April 5, 2013.
From January 2014 the band went on tour with Christian Martucci (including Dee Dee Ramone and Corey Taylor's solo band), as James Root wants to concentrate completely on the work on the next Slipknot album. He therefore wanted to suspend the next concert dates. In May, however, the band announced that James Root had been released from the band. The band later confirmed that Martucci was now a permanent member.
Hydrograd (from 2017)
On June 30, 2017, the sixth album was released, which was named Hydrograd .
Music genre
Stone Sour say they play "melodic hard rock with content and initiative". The Beatles , Led Zeppelin , Metallica and Alice in Chains are named as musical influences . The albums feature melodic ballads as well as songs characterized by typical metal riffs . All of Corey Taylor's vocal styles, for which he is already known at Slipknot, are used, from melodic-clear vocals to screaming and growling .
