Audio Secrecy is the third studio album by the American rock band Stone Sour .

History of origin

After the tour for the album Come What (ever) May 2007 was completed, the band members went their separate ways again to devote themselves to other projects. Corey Taylor and James Root recorded their fourth album All Hope Is Gone with Slipknot , which was released in 2008. The tour lasted until November 2009. However, Stone Sour published a count up on their official website in the summer of 2009.

On December 1, 2009 Taylor announced in an interview that the new album should be produced by Rob Cavallo. He also said the recordings would start in February 2010. However, he has not yet revealed any details. A press release followed on January 12, 2010, announcing that Nick Raskulinecz would produce the album instead of Rob Cavallo. Raskulinecz had already produced the previous album Come What (ever) May . The band set up an official Twitter profile on which the recordings for the album could be followed by fans. During the recording, the song The Pessimist was recorded, which later became a soundtrack contribution to Transformers 3 . However, the piece is not included on the album. As on the previous albums ( Omega and Frozen ), a speech by Corey Taylor was recorded. However, the piece was not published.

The first single, Mission Statement , was released on June 21, 2010 via iTunes . In addition to Mission Statement , the singles Say You'll Haunt Me , Digital (Did You Tell) and Hesitate were released.  There was also a music video for all singles - with the exception of Mission Statement . The album was released on September 3rd in Europe and on September 7th in America. It has sold over 46,000 times in the United States. Audio Secrecy is dedicated to Slipknot bassist Paul Gray . He had died on May 24, 2010 of an overdose of morphine and fentanyl combined with heart disease.

reception

Thorsten Zahn from Metal Hammer said that the songs on the album were more sophisticated, mature and passionate than anything Stone Sour had released so far. The material is also suitable for the large stadiums. Although he said that old fans could have problems with the album, he gave full points out of seven possible points.

Rock Hard's Ronny Bittner emphasized that Audio Secrecy was the logical next step for a band that would bring together at least three world-class songwriting talents (Taylor, Root, Rand). He awarded eight out of ten possible points.

Michael Edele from Laut.de said, however, that Corey Taylor's inner balance would be at the expense of his creativity and that hits would be in short supply in the second half of the album. He awarded three stars out of five.
