Come What (ever) May is the second studio album by the American rock band Stone Sour .
History of origin
While on tour for Slipknot 's third studio album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) , singer Corey Taylor announced that Stone Sour would return with a second album. Work began in January 2006. Nick Raskulinecz was confirmed as the producer .
Shortly before the recordings, drummer Joel Ekman left the band . He wanted to help his son who had been diagnosed with glioma . His successor was former Soulfly drummer Roy Mayorga . The album was recorded in Studio 606, which is owned by Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl . While most of the songs on the debut album of the same name had been written by Josh Rand and Corey Taylor, this time all members were listed as songwriters.
The first single was 30 / 30-150 . The song was nominated for a 2007 Grammy Award in the Best Metal Performance category. However, the award went to Slayer for Eyes of the Insane . Single No. 2 was Through Glass , which to date is the only song that made it into the German single charts (No. 95). Sillyworld , Made of Scars and Zzyzx Rd. Were released as further singles . Music videos were also produced for all singles with the exception of Zzyzx Rd . Reborn was not released as a single, but there was a music video for the song. A video for Zzyzx Rd. Was subsequently published on YouTube for the tenth birthday of the album in December 2016.
In 2006 the album was awarded a gold record in the USA and Canada . In 2007 the album received a Silver Record in Great Britain .
reception
In Rock Hard , Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann wrote that Stone Sour would confidently go through different styles and knock the listener with one potential single after the other. He also predicted that millions in sales worldwide would be all but certain. He awarded eight out of ten points. It was also named album of the month. Even with Metal Hammer was Come What (ever) May album of the month. Looking back on 2006, it was also named album of the year.
Andi Althoff from metal1.info said that Stone Sour gained a lot of new fans with this album, but that the old fans shouldn't have any reason to complain either. Above all, he praised Taylor's complex voice. He awarded nine out of ten points. Michael Edele from laut.de said that some pieces for Slipknot fans, the so-called "Maggots", would be useless and advised them not to buy the album. Nevertheless, he said that Taylor had given the songs its own charm, which he didn't trust him to do. He therefore awarded four out of five stars.
