Metal1.info (spoken: MetalEins) is an independent German-language online music magazine. The focus is on the topics of metal and rock , complemented by genres such as punk , metalcore , crossover , folk or progressive rock . The offer includes reviews, interviews, concert reports and photos as well as specials on current topics. The magazine was founded in 2002 by Stefan Popp, Andreas Althoff and Siegfried Maier.

Of the three founders, Siegfried Maier is still active as the publisher to this day, and Moritz Grütz has been the editor-in-chief responsible for the content since 2015.

History, interesting facts and references

The idea and the name Metal1.info came about during the winter of 2002 when Stefan Popp, Andreas Althoff and Siegfried Maier decided to set up their own webzine and put it online. The programming and the first layout of the page are from Andreas Althoff. The name goes back to the trend at the time to end a URL with a 1, which was also followed by Slipknot and Machine Head , for example . Although the logo has been revised several times over the years, the name has always remained the same. The current version of the M1 logo comes from the professional draftsman Andi Papelitzky.

The three founders started their project without any contact with labels, organizers or bands. The credo of remaining independent is still the most important goal of Metal1.info today.

In the course of the early years it was possible to establish successful contacts with promotion agencies, especially in the folk area, the first interviews with Schandmaul ensured increasing awareness. In addition, there were the first attempts at setting up our own station in the area of the then very popular Internet radio , which was discontinued in 2006 when Daniel Popp left.

The user forum on the website enjoyed great popularity, especially in the early years. This was abolished in the course of the relaunch of the site in 2015 and replaced by an extended comment function.

As a co-organizer of the Ragnarök Festival 2005 in the person of the then Metal1.info editor-in-chief Stefan Popp, the magazine also appeared off the Internet for the first time. Since then Metal1.info has been represented as a press partner at various festivals with its own stand, where autograph sessions and meet & greets take place - including the Ragnarök Festival (2011), the Eisenwahn Open Air (2011–2013), the TANZT! (2012 to present) and the Dark Easter Metal Meeting (2015 to present).

Metal1.info is currently presenting various metal events in Germany - including Backstage Munich events as well as various festivals (Dark Easter Metal Meeting, Bavarian Battle Open Air, Ragnarök Festival , Way Of Darkness Festival, Party.San ) and national and international tours successful bands ( Faun , Fiddler's Green , Versengold , and many more).

The texts and interviews from Metal1.info are received in the scene as a relevant contribution to information and opinion-forming and are cited in partly scientific books on the subject. Bands and promoters also regularly refer to the articles via their websites and social media. In an article on Rammstein's 2019 live tour, Rolling Stone again cites an interview by Metal1.info with tour manager Nicolas Sabottka.
