Confide was founded in 2004, post-hardcore band from the Californian metropolis Los Angeles . They broke up in 2010, got back together two years later and played concerts again in 2013. However, the current status of the band is uncertain.

In her active career between 2004 and 2010, two EPs and two studio albums were released: The EPs Innocence Surround and Introduction , released in 2005 and 2006, were both self-produced. After a signature with Science Records , the release of the debut album Shout the Truth followed in 2008 , which was reissued a year later by Tragic Hero Records . The second album Recover was released through Tragic Hero in 2010 . After their interim separation, the third album All Is Calm was released in 2013 , which was successfully financed with the help of crowdfunding .

The founders of the band were guitarist Aaron Van Zutphen, drummer Jason Pickard and singer John Plesh, who, however, had stopped playing at Confide before the group split up. The final line-up consisted of vocalist Ross Kenyon, guitarist Jeffrey Helberg, backing vocalist and lead guitarist Joshua Paul, drummer and clean singer Joel Piper, and bassist Trevor Vickers.

Between 2004 and 2010 the group did mainly concert tours in North America . However, the group has also been seen in Australia , New Zealand , Japan and the United Kingdom . A European tour and participation in concert tours with Miss May I and We Came as Romans had to be canceled. In the summer of 2010 the group played on the Warped Tour . On their concert tours the group has performed with I Am Ghost , This Romantic Tragedy , Dream On, Dreamer , Pierce the Veil , Greeley Estates and In Fear and Faith, among others .

Initially, Confide was a classic deathcore band. With the change of singer, her musical style changed significantly. The group's music is comparable with Blessthefall , The Amity Affliction , The Devil Wears Prada and We Came as Romans. In terms of text, the band processes topics such as pain and hope in relation to existential fears. In addition, the lyrics have a Christian touch.

history

First years and first publications

Confide was founded in August 2004 by singer John Plesh, drummer Jason Pickard and lead guitarist Aaron Van Zutphen in Sunland , a district of the Californian metropolis of Los Angeles, as a deathcore band. In their circle of friends, the musicians looked for further band members, who could be found in the bassist William Pruden and the rhythm guitarist Jeffrey Helberg.

With this line-up, the quintet released their first self-directed EP in June 2005, Innocence Surround . After that, drummer Pickard left the group and was replaced by Jason Penton on drums. At the end of the same year singer John Plesh decided to leave the group. After months of searching in vain for a new lead singer, Plesh was asked if he could get back on track to record their second EP. This EP, called Introduction , was finally released with Plesh as singer in August 2006, again on his own.

At the end of 2006 a new singer was found in the Englishman Ross Kenyon. Kenyon previously played for Penknivelofelife . With the arrival of Kenyon, the group's music changed dramatically. Almost all the influences of Death Metal were lost, so that the group turned to metal or post-hardcore . However, in 2007 Kenyon was forced to travel back to the UK to work with Penknivelofelive. After a tour with And Their Eyes Were Bloodshot, Kenyon announced that he was leaving Penknifelovelife in order to be able to concentrate fully on his work with Confide. Shortly afterwards, Penknifelofelife dissolved. At the end of 2006 Penton got out, so the group had to look for a drummer again. This one was found in Arin Ilejay , who plays with Avenged Sevenfold today. In 2007 the group toured with Greeley Estates .

Signature to Science Records and Shout the Truth

After the group signed a recording deal with Science Records , the group worked on their debut album called Shout the Truth , which was released on June 17, 2008. The rest of the year the group toured to promote the album. Shortly after the album was released, the record label was dissolved by the parent company Warner Bros. Records , which not only resulted in the loss of the record contract, but also the departure of founding member Aaron Van Zutphen and drummer Ilejay. The latter initially jumped in as a temporary drummer at Avenged Sevenfold and was later taken over permanently.

In April 2009 the group was finally signed by Tragic Hero Records and the debut album was reissued. In addition, the band was able to find a new drummer in Joel Piper and a new guitarist in Joshua Paul, so that the band could tour the United States with In Fear and Faith . Another tour followed with This Romantic Tragedy .

Recover and interim separation

After the band split from their bassist William Pruden in January 2010 and was replaced by Trevor Vickers, the group went into the studio to work on their second album. This is called Recover and was officially released on May 18, 2010 via Tragic Hero Records. The group opened for I Am Ghost in the UK between May 15 and May 21, 2010 . The group spent the summer on the Warped Tour .

Although the group was booked as the opening act for the Band of Brothers tour by We Came as Romans , this did not take the tour. Also a support tour for Miss May I , the Monument Tour , initially dropped the group into the water without any explanation. Several messages on Twitter , which have since been deleted , indicated that the musicians wanted to break up the group. A planned European tour in October 2010 fell through because of violated contract details on the part of the responsible concert agency. On October 4, 2010, the group announced that they would split up after a few farewell concerts in November 2010 after returning from their Australia and Japan tour with Pierce the Veil . The last concert took place on November 7, 2010 in Pomona , California .

Reunion and All Is Calm

In the meantime, the group formed for a performance on September 4, 2011 at the Playground Festival in Hidden Valley Park in Irvine . After Ross Kenyon and Joel Piper had started musical side projects in the meantime, the group announced on August 31, 2012 that they would reunite with the last lineup before the split. The group started a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.com on the same day to finance the production of their third album. Just a few days after starting the campaign, the band reached their minimum target of $ 30,000. At the end of the campaign, the project had just under $ 39,000 in revenue. The album, called All Is Calm , was self-released on July 30, 2014.

Lifelong

Around 2018, the former Confide members Ross Kenyon (again as vocalist), Joel Piper (on drums) and Trevor Vickers (on guitar) got together again and formed the band Lifelong . Her first EP Revive the Masses was released on May 1, 2018 and contains the songs

a total of five tracks (total playing time: 17:55). The EP was released by Red Letters Recording and is so far the only work by the former Confide band members.

Style and notoriety

Music and lyrics

First, the group played the classic variant of deathcore . After a singer change from John Plesh to Ross Kenyon, any musical influences of Death Metal were replaced by quieter and melodic song structures, so that the group can be assigned to metal or post-hardcore . The group's music on Recover is comparable to Blessthefall , The Devil Wears Prada , We Came as Romans and The Amity Affliction . On the debut album Shout the Truth , the musical sound of the group was also comparable to Oh, Sleeper . The style of music was described as Screamo with a hardcore attitude and a technical edge from Underoath .

The group's lyrics are mostly with a Christian touch. The band mainly writes on topics such as pain and hope versus existential fears.

Notoriety

Although the group picks up classic elements of metal or post-hardcore, the great success - which genre comrades like We Came as Romans , Blessthefall and The Amity Affliction have long had - failed to materialize. None of the three previously released albums could score a place in the official US album charts . Only were rankings in the Heatseekers - the independent Albums- and the Hard Rock forex charts, all of which by US music magazine Billboard to determine possible.
