Miss May I is an American metalcore band from Ohio . So far, they have released six studio albums and contributed the title track to Saw VI . The band is under contract with the label Rise Records.
history
Miss May I was founded in 2007 in Troy , Ohio. At the time they were 16 years old and their first release was the EP Vows for a Massakre , which included five songs. It wasn't until 2009 that they released the first real album, Apologies Are for the Weak . They still produced this album themselves, but then signed a contract with Rise Records.
Apologies Are for the Weak (2009)
With this album in their luggage they went on tour with Carnifex , Impending Doom , and Conducting from the Grave . After a short time, however, the previous bassist Josh Gillispie decided to leave the band. He was replaced by Ryan Neff. They then played on several smaller tours.
Monument (2010)
After going into the studio in May 2010, they released their second album Monument on June 28, 2010 . In December they announced that they would be participating in the 2011 Vans Warped Tour .
At Heart (2012-2014)
After completing the Warped Tour, they hit the studio in early 2012 to record their third studio album. The album, entitled At Heart , was released on June 12, 2012. In April of the same year, Miss May I went on a European tour as the opening act for Parkway Drive .
Rise of the Lion (2014-2015)
In the spring of 2014, Benton announced that the band had almost finished recording a new album. The band then released the first single from the album Gone on Youtube . They announced on Facebook that the album will be named Rise of the Lion and was released on April 25, 2014. In June and August the band performed at Rock im Park in Nuremberg and at the Mayhem Festival in New Jersey.
Deathless (since 2015)
In an interview, bassist Neff announced that an album would also be released for 2015. They announced on the band's Facebook page that they would be participating in the 2015 Vans Warped Tour. In June 2015 the band released a single called IHE , shortly afterwards the album was confirmed with Deathless . The album was released on August 7, 2015. By the end of the year, they toured North America with Parkway Drive and Thy Art Is Murder .
Music genre
According to Powermetal.de , Miss May I sounds like the newer works by Trivium and Killswitch Engage , only with insertions of breakdowns . The album Rise of the Lion sounds like a mix of Metalcore and Modern Metal , which is a heavier version of Disturbed , As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage.
Their music regained more aggressiveness with the album Deathless, as complicated guitar solos can be heard from the songs for the first time since Apologies Are For The Weak , which was not the case on the previous album. Benton emphasized in an interview that he was influenced by rappers like Jay-Z , Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre , but also by bands like All That Remains , Killswitch Engage and Five Finger Death Punch .
The band's music is generally assigned to Metalcore, but there are also influences from Melodic Death Metal , Hardcore Punk and Groove Metal . The frequently used sound is very similar to that of As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage, and is mostly the downtune typical of Metalcore.
