Rockavaria is a rock festival organized by DEAG Deutsche Entertainment and Global Concerts, which took place for the first time from May 29th to 31st, 2015 in Munich's Olympiapark . After a one-year break, the festival will return in 2018 and take place on Königsplatz .

history

In 2015, the headliners Muse , Metallica and KISS , as well as other bands such as Faith No More , Five Finger Death Punch , Incubus , Judas Priest and Limp Bizkit appeared on the Olympic grounds. Overall, the organizer of Rockavaria focused on rock and metal fans.

There were a total of three stages that were played at the same time: the "Talent Stage" in the Theatron, the "Main Stage" in the Olympic Stadium, where 55,000 visitors heard the headliners Muse, Kiss and Metallica, and the "Second Stage" in the Olympic Hall which among other things the winners of the band contest were allowed to perform.

The Rock im Revier and Rock in Vienna festivals with mostly the same lineup took place at the same time or one week later.

The second Rockavaria took place from May 27th to 29th, 2016. Bands like Iron Maiden , Nightwish , Iggy Pop , Slayer , Mando Diao and In Extremo played, among others . In contrast to the previous year, there were no concerts in the Olympic Hall this time, two stages were set up next to each other in the stadium, which were alternately played. In addition, the floating stage was moved a little so that more spectators had space. Due to a storm warning on Sunday afternoon, visitors inside were asked to go to the covered grandstand seats. Contrary to the report of a daily newspaper, the American metal band Anthrax did not stop playing. Also Sabaton played during a 20-minute storm almost continuously on.

On February 4th 2017 it was announced that the festival will not take place in 2017.

On October 25, 2017, the organizer announced that Rockavaria will return in 2018. The festival is to take place on June 9 and 10, 2018 at Königsplatz with only 20 concerts. There will be two stages: the big bands play opposite the Propylaea, the smaller ones in the park behind the Glyptothek.

Band contest

Around 600 rock bands from the region applied to Global Concerts, the organizer of Rockavaria , in 2015 to take part in the band contest and thus get the chance to perform at the festival. Ten bands from all entries were nominated for the final round of the band contest. These ten bands were able to demonstrate their skills and talent in front of the audience and an expert jury on April 10, 2015 at the Circus Krone in Munich as part of a public band competition. The winning band tuXedoo was allowed to perform their music at the festival. The band contest in 2016 was equally well received, in which the metalcore band Resist The Ocean prevailed against nine other bands in the backstage in the final .
