history

Beastmilk (2010 to 2015)

The band was founded in 2010 under the name Beastmilk . The founding members included singer Mat McNerney, who sang under the pseudonym "Kvohst" between 2006 and 2008 with the band Dødheimsgard , guitarist Johan "Goatspeed" Snell, bassist Valtteri Arino and drummer Paile. The band name was taken from the book White Stains by Aleister Crowley . In the year it was founded, Beastmilk released the demo White Stains on Black Tape . The German magazine Metal Hammer chose the work as demo of the month and presented the band in its “Heroes of Tomorrow” section. Beastmilk were signed by Svart Records and released the EP Use Your Deluge on April 2, 2012 .

A year later the debut album Climax followed , which entered the Finnish album charts at number 33. The album was recorded by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou in his studio and released on November 29, 2013. Climax was named best debut album at the Metal Hammer Awards 2014 . Beastmilk were also nominated in the Up and Coming category, but the award went to Insomnium . In the summer of 2015 the band played at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival , before a European tour followed in the fall of 2014 as a support act for In Solitude . The Swedish Linnéa Olsson, previously at The Oath played, is Beastmilk joined as a second guitarist. In the following year there was tension between Johannes “Goatspeed” Snell and the rest of the band. Snell eventually got out and was replaced by Juho Vanhanen, who previously played for Oranssi Pazuzu . Drummer Paile also left the band. At the same time, Beastmilk changed their name to Grave Pleasures.

Grave Pleasures (since 2015)

The new drummer was Uno Bruniusson, who previously played for In Solitude. Grave Pleasures signed a contract with Sony Music and recorded their second studio album with producer Tom Dalgety. Dreamcrash was released on September 4, 2015 via Columbia Records and a month later in the US via Metal Blade . The album debuted at number 47 on the Finnish album charts. Festival appearances at Hellfest , Rockavaria , Rock im Revier and the Reeperbahn Festival followed . At the 2016 Metal Hammer Awards, Dreamcrash was nominated for Best Debut Album, despite being the second album. The award went to Abbath for his self-titled album. In spring 2017 Linnéa Olsson left the band and was replaced by Aleksi Kiiskilä.

In June 2017, Grave Pleasures signed a contract with Century Media . With producer Jaime Gomez Arellano, the band recorded their third studio album Motherblood , which was released on September 29, 2017. In the same year the EP Funeral Party was released .

style

Singer Mat "Kvohst" McNerney describes the music as a mixture of apocalyptic pop and psychedelic punk . He named Crisis , Rudimentary Peni , Serge Gainsbourg , Joy Division , Sonic Youth and France Gall as main influences .
