Crisis was founded in 1977 in Guildford , England . In the 1970s, rhythm guitarist Douglas Pearce claimed to have encouraged bassist Tony Wakeford to form the band, but in a 2006 interview, the opposite was true. The band has often performed at rock-against-racism events. Pearce described the band as both Trotskyist and a mix of socialists, communists and pacifists. Your texts were politically influenced and directed against the British government and National Socialism. Crisis was even referred to as “ red fascist ”. The style of the band is described by deathrock.com as rhythmic, structured and poetic and compared to that of bands such as Warsaw , UK Decay , The Royal Family and some bands from the Crass Records environment . The band broke up in 1980. In 2005, the CD “Holocaust Hymns” was released as a jewel case , containing all of the band's publications in a remastered version and a twelve-page booklet with exclusive photos from Douglas Pearce's private archives.

In 2017 the band was reactivated in a different form and gave concerts again.
