Serum 114 is a punk rock - band from Frankfurt .
The name of the music group is borrowed from the Stanley Kubrick film A Clockwork Orange , a film adaptation of the novel of the same name . The chemical agent of this name is supposed to make good citizens out of criminals and psychopaths, but it fails.
history
Serum 114 signed a record deal with Bodog Music Europe in late 2007 . At the beginning of 2008 the EP was released Are you ready? .
The self-titled debut album Serum 114 was released on August 29, 2008. Hennig Richter praises the group in Metal Hammer as a “hopeful band ” and “robust turbo quartet”, but criticizes some clichés in their appearance. In the Kin Kats , Kitty Morgue describes the band as “the best newcomer on the scene” and the album as “a great, absolute hit”. Walter Scheurer from Powermetal.de, on the other hand, criticizes the lack of authenticity and originality .
In 2008 Serum 114 toured with Volbeat , Donots , Flogging Molly , V8 Wankers and Millencolin and played over 120 concerts that year.
For the TV Total Stock Car Challenge 2008 on November 29, 2008 Serum 114 provided the song Adrenalin for the soundtrack .
After it became known at the end of 2008 that Bodog Music Europe had to file for bankruptcy and the outstanding budget, u. a. For a planned video shoot and the marketing plan, the band had to pay for the costs themselves.
The musicians independently produced their second album Antiheld on a small budget. In 2011, the band switched to the Rookies & Kings label with the new album Antiheld and released it there on April 29, 2011. In April 2011, the single Die Stadt, die Stadt we Liebe was also released.
On January 13, 2012, Serum 114 released their third studio album, your voice / your face, and went straight to number 29 on the Media Control album charts. On December 23, 2011, the song Happy New Year from the album Your Voice / Your Face was offered as a free download on the website . On January 6, 2012, the video for the first single Boy, Your Life was released .
On September 7th, 2012 the single My Last Greeting was released , which is also available as a download. It also features a cover version of the Untergangskommando song Willkommen in Eden .
According to the band, after separating from Rookies & Kings, they worked on their own label and founded the four musicians in July 2013 under the name “Junge Dein Label”.
On December 23, 2013, Serum 114 released another cover song with Illegale Fans (original by the band Deichkind ) from their album Kopfüber ins Nothing , which was released in July 2014 . The cartoon protagonist in this video is the label logo of "Junge Dein Label".
Since December 11th, 2015 the own label is supported by Napalm Records .
In August 2016 Serum 114 released their new album "Die Nacht mein Freund". The album went to number 3 in the German Media Control Charts. In 2016 the singles "Die Nacht mein Freund" and "Wilde Zeit" were released. Then the band went on tour in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
On September 15, 2017 the band released the single "Ich lebe" in a newly recorded version with Myriam von M. In 2018 and 2019 the band was out live a lot. In December 2018 there was the "I LIVE" TOUR. In 2019 the band retired to the studio to record their new album. The new single Freiheit was released on February 28, 2020 . At the same time the album In the Sign of the Times was announced for September 2020.
style
Musically, the group names role models such as social distortion and plays exclusively German-language punk rock, especially with socially and socially critical texts, also on provocative topics such as school rampage, anorexia, sexual abuse and "jolly hip-hopers".
