Mother's Cake are an Austrian progressive rock - band .

history

Yves Krismer and Benedikt Trenkwalder celebrated their first successes with their band Brainwashed. In 2005 they took second place in the Austrian Band Contest. Two albums were released and they played as opening act for Velvet Revolver , Tito & Tarantula and Le Tigre , among others .

In November 2008 Yves Krismer (guitar, vocals), Benedikt Trenkwalder (bass) and Jan Haußels (drums) formed the band Mother's Cake. Numerous smaller appearances followed in the Tyrolean Oberland and the state capital Innsbruck .

In the summer of 2009 Mother's Cake applied for their first big band contest with approx. 300 participating bands - the International Live Award feat. Austrian Band Contest 2010 . The band won both preliminary rounds for Tyrol and Vorarlberg as jury winners. In the final, despite winning the jury, they had to settle for third place. In early 2010 they started at the Local Heroes Austria 2010 Band Contest. Here, too, they were able to decide the preliminary round, the intermediate round and the western final as jury winners. On May 29, 2010 they won the final in the Arena Vienna. They were recognized as the best band and each band member independently as the best singer, best bass player and best drummer in the competition. On November 26th, 2010 they took part in the first European final of the Local Heroes Band Contest in Pécs / Hungary and achieved second place.

On August 18, 2010 they were on gotv as part of hosted by Mother's Cake . In addition to eleven other songs, her music video for Realitricked Me was presented to the public for the first time. The accompanying EP was released on September 1st. Appearances in Viennese locations followed (Szene Wien, Gasometer , Arena Wien ) and reports in XPress and local newspapers.

On October 26, 2012, their debut album Creation's Finest (GAB Music) was released, which thematically deals with the absurd and self-destructive madness of humanity and musically spans an almost all-encompassing range of quotes from rock and pop history. The first single was released on August 17, 2012 with the song Soul Prison (feat. Ikey Owens , ex-keyboardist with The Mars Volta , now with Jack White), which quickly became a YouTube hit with more than 230,000 views. In addition, Mother's Cake contributed some titles to the soundtrack of Henning Backhaus ' film Local Heroes , which premiered on January 7, 2013 in the Gartenbaukino in Vienna.

In January 2013 the band won the “Austrian Newcomer Award 2013”, which was presented to them on March 1, 2013 in Linz.

In 2013 alone, Mother's Cake played more than 50 shows across Central Europe and supported acts such as the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group , the Deftones and Iggy Pop and the Stooges .

On January 24th, 2014 Mother's Cake played as the first live band in the event igloo Cloud 9 on the Seegrube high above Innsbruck.

In February 2014, the group started their first international tour, which included 12 performances in Australia and headlined the local club and festival scene there. At the same time they released their album Creation's Finest (Inaway Records / GAB Music) in Australia.

The debut album Creation's Finest was also released in Germany on April 4, 2014, and received positive feedback there.

With the help of a successful crowdfunding campaign , Mother's Cake won the funds for the video project “Mother 'Cake: Off the Beaten Track” in spring / summer 2014. A whole live concert was recorded in the now demolished Innsbruck cultural café Propolis and made available to the public via YouTube.

In autumn 2014 Mother's Cake sponsored the British progressive metal band Anathema on their “Distant Satellites Tour”, which took them through 20 countries in 56 days and with 42 shows and documented their experiences on their YouTube channel.

On June 5, 2015 the trio released their second LP Love The Filth (Panta R&E) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and promoted it with a tour through these countries.

In August 2015, Mother's Cake played as the opening act for four appearances by the US band Limp Bizkit in Germany and Great Britain.

In November 2016 the band announced that they would release their third album No Rhyme No Reason in January 2017 .

style

The band's music reveals influences from groups like The Mars Volta , Porcupine Tree , Red Hot Chili Peppers or Bootsy Collins and manifests itself in a sound of funk , hard rock and progressive, psychedelic parts.
