history

The band was founded in 2009 and initially consisted of singer and guitarist Fynn Grabke, bassist Tim Bohlmann and drummer Philipp Mirtschink. Fynn Grabke is the son of Claus Grabke , who was German skateboarding champion several times and who later worked as a singer in the bands Eight Dayz , Thumb and Alternative Allstars . Claus Grabke is active as a manager and producer for the Picturebooks . In the year it was founded, the band was signed by the Berlin- based record label Noisolution , which then released the debut album List of People to Kill . The band played at the Reeperbahn Festival , the Omas Teich Festival and at Olgas Rock .

A short time later, bassist Tim Bohlmann quit because he imagined a different life. The musicians are still close friends with Bohlmann today. Fynn Grabke and Philipp Mirtschink decided to continue as a duo and briefly thought about changing the band name. Because the Picturebooks were already internationally active at this time, these plans were discarded. The two musicians then traveled through the United States and were inspired to correct the musical course. In 2012 the band played at the Greenville Festival . The third studio album, Imaginary Horse , was released in 2014. The Picturebooks at Riot Fest and a year later at the Rockavaria and Rock im Revier festivals . The Picturebooks were then signed by the German record label Another Century , which released the fourth studio album Home Is a Heartache in 2017 .

The fifth studio album The Hands of Time was released on March 8, 2019 . In the song You Can not Let Go occurs Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders as a guest singer. A North American tour was announced in the opening act of Volbeat for spring 2020 .

style

The first two albums that the Picturebooks released as a trio were musically a mixture of indie rock and garage rock . After Tim Bohlmann left, the band turned to the early blues . A musical peculiarity of the band is that drummer Philipp Mirtschink does not use cymbals on his instrument . Percussion instruments are used for the treble . Fynn Grabke, on the other hand, plays his guitar by feeling and admits that he cannot play chords .
