history
The singer and guitarist Josh Landau and bassist Court Murphy met at the high school in Santa Monica know. When someone put on a Thin Lizzy record at a party , they both decided to form a band. They met the drummer Jeff Murray through a newspaper advertisement and in 2008 they formed the band The Shrine. The band released a few singles on their own before The Shrine was signed by Tee Pee Records . In 2012 the debut album Primitive Blast was released , which was supposed to be a demo and was remixed and mastered by the band . In the same year the band played a European tour in support of Fu Manchu .
Further tours followed with Graveyard , Dinosaur Jr. and Red Fang as well as further single and split releases. At the same time, the musicians began working on their second studio album "Bless Off". First, the band recorded a demo in The Hague, the Netherlands . Half a year later the actual recordings took place in Venice Beach. "Bless Off" was also released in spring 2014 via Tee Pee Records. The Shrine toured North America with Earthless and Europe with Kadavar . They also took part in the SXSW festival tour.
In June 2015 The Shrine was signed by the German record label Century Media, which released the third studio album Rare Breed on October 30, 2015.
style
Allmusic's Gregory Heany describes The Shrine as a band whose sound is based on the early days of punk and the new wave of British heavy metal . Singer Josh Landau called his band the oxymoron of the late 1970s when the Ramones opened for Black Sabbath . Another major influence is the hardcore band Black Flag . According to singer Josh Landau, the band always had problems at concerts due to the wide range of influences. The Shrine would have been called a metal band at punk concerts , while the band were always the punks at metal concerts.
