The Charm the Fury was a metalcore / post-hardcore band from Amsterdam , Netherlands, founded in 2010 . The band was most recently under contract with Arising Empire and Nuclear Blast .

history

The band was founded in 2010 in the Dutch capital Amsterdam and consists of lead singer Caroline Westendorp, the two guitarists Mathijs Parent and Rolf Perdok, bassist Lucas Arnoldussen and drummer Mathijs Tieken.

On May 28, 2012, the debut EP called The Social Meltdown was released , which u. a. at the radio station BBC Radio One , the Kerrang! and found approval in the Metal Hammer . This was followed by concerts in the opening act of I Killed the Prom Queen , Oh, Sleeper and Textures , as well as an appearance at Groezrock in Belgium .

On September 16, 2013, the debut album A Shade of My Former Self was released on Listenable Records in Europe and a day later on Pavement Entertainment in North America . On November 10, 2013 the group played as part of the Warped Tour in Eindhoven . There the group played on the Monster Energy North Stage with John Coffey , Memphis May Fire , The Maine and We Came as Romans . Five days later the group played in London , also as part of the Warped Tour. There the band played on the Kevin Says Stage .

Between January 16, 2014 and February 28, 2014 the group toured ten concerts in the Netherlands . On June 21, 2014 The Charm the Fury played at the Summerblast Festival in the Excellence House in Trier . There the group could be seen on the outdoor stage with Stick to Your Guns , Caliban , Hundredth , Letlive , Bury Tomorrow , Walls of Jericho and Betraying the Martyrs, among others. The group has been confirmed along with Polar to replace the canceled Rotting Out and Memphis May Fire . Six days later the group played at the Mair1 Festival in Montabaur . The group starred at Painstage with To the Rats and Wolves , The Green River Burial , Choking on Illusions and Science of Sleep .

On June 24, 2014 it was reported that the group was interested in representing the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 . However, at this point in time there were no candidates for the national preliminary round.

The group switched to Arising Empire , the subsidiary label of Nuclear Blast , and announced the release of the second studio album The Sick, Dumb and Happy for March 17, 2017.

In 2017 they went on tour as a support act with Eluveitie and Amaranthe . On November 20, 2018, the musicians announced the immediate breakup of the band. As a reason for this step, the band cited the departure of the two guitarists Mathijs Parent and Rolf Perdok as well as the financial situation of the other musicians.

style

Hendrik Lukas describes the style of music as Metalcore , which is enriched with “ Emo and Screamo substitutes”. He mentions groups like Underoath and Every Time I Die as musical influences .
