history
2008–2011: foundation
Betraying the Martyrs was founded in 2008 and initially consisted of Eddie Czaicky ( vocals ), Baptiste Vigier ( guitar ), Lucas d'Angelo (guitar), Victor Guillet (vocals, keyboards ), Valentin Hauser ( bass ) and Antoine Saline ( drums ). Former musicians are Eddie Czaicky (vocals) and Fabien Clévy (guitar). Before joining Betraying the Martyrs, Czaicky also played in Darkness Dynamite .
On November 18, 2009, their EP The Hurt, the Divine, the Light was released , which was produced in-house. This sold 2,000 times in France alone. Betraying the Martyrs has played with bands like Whitechapel , Dark Funeral , Darkness Dynamite , A Skylit Drive , Adept , Despised Icon , Dance Gavin Dance , While She Sleeps and Shadows Chasing Ghosts .
The group has already toured France and Belgium . The group did their first European tour in 2010 and was called The Survivor Tour , which led through France, Belgium and Great Britain . As opening act played For Untold Reasons .
2011–2014: Breathe in Life
The band's success led to record deals with Sumerian Records , where bands like Asking Alexandria , Stick to Your Guns , The Faceless , Periphery and Born of Osiris have signed and the French label Listenable Records (including Aborted , Anorexia Nervosa , Exhumed , Panzerchrist ). Sumerian Records only sells the albums in North America .
On September 23, 2011, the debut album Breathe in Life was released worldwide. The group toured Europe for the second time in April and May 2011 to promote the album. The Breathe in Life Tour led through Germany , Russia , Ukraine , Poland , the Czech Republic , Switzerland , Austria , Luxembourg , Belgium , France , the Netherlands and Great Britain . The Russian metalcore band My Autumn and Despite My Deepest Fear played in the opening act during the entire European concert tour. Later in the year a tour of the United States followed in support of Born of Osiris , Veil of Maya and Carnifex .
In early 2012, Betraying the Martyrs played at the Bonecrusher Fest , a European concert tour, together with Molotov Solution and Beneath the Massacre . In April another US tour followed, the "Sumerianos Tour", with Upon a Burning Body and I, the Breather . This was followed by another European tour as a support band for Veil of Maya on their "European Eclipse Tour" together with Vildhjarta . In June 2012 the group announced that their previous drummer Antoine Saline had left the group for personal reasons. He was replaced by the Russian drummer Mark Mironow, who previously worked for My Autumn. After it was known that Antoine would leave the band, Mironov was asked by the group if he wanted to take on the role of drummer. The group played at the Mayhem Festival , a US concert tour , in late June . There the group met bands like Slipknot , Slayer and Anthrax, among others . The group was also on the "Allstars Tour", including with Suicide Silence , Unearth and Winds of Plague .
In January and February 2013 the group started another European tour together with While She Sleeps and Motionless in White as support for Asking Alexandria . This led through the United Kingdom , Germany , Belgium , Denmark , Sweden, the Czech Republic , Austria , Luxembourg , the Netherlands , Italy and Switzerland . In October Betraying the Martyrs played for the first time on Never Say Die! Tour . Emmure , I Killed the Prom Queen , Carnifex , Hand of Mercy , Northlane and Hundredth also played on this concert tour . The originally booked Miss May I and Rise of the Northstar had to cancel participation in the tour. In February and March 2014, the band toured the United States with Here Comes the Kraken and I Declare War as opening act for Carnifex. In addition to their concert tours, the group worked on the follow-up album for "Breathe in Life" until the beginning of 2014.
Since 2014: Phantom

In early 2014, the group moved into the recording studio to begin work on the successor to “Breathe in Life”, for which they wrote a concept for almost three years. On May 23, 2014 the Alternative Press reported that the album was called "Phantom" and will be released on July 15, 2014 via Sumerian Records and Listenable Records . The band has also been booked for this year's Allstars Tour, which will lead through the United States. Other confirmed bands include The Acacia Strain , For All Those Sleeping , Sworn In , Slaves and For the Fallen Dreams . Before that, Betraying the Martyrs played at several concerts in Europe, including the Summerblast Festival in Trier . The group previously headlined Australia for the first time . The band was accompanied by Save the Clock Tower from Tasmania on the nine-concert tour that took place between June 5 and 15, 2014 . On June 24, 2014, the group announced a multi-week concert tour through Russia and Belarus .
style
music
The musical style of Betraying the Martyrs is often assigned to death or metalcore , as they mix breakdowns , which are very reminiscent of Carnifex and Whitechapel , with symphonic electro sounds, which is untypical for deathcore, but is now more often used in metalcore. Through the use of changing tempo inserts in the songs, the sound of the group appears progressive and is comparable to Born of Osiris .
