Sworn In is an American metalcore band from Grayslake that was formed in 2011.

history

The band was founded in March 2011 under the name Buried by the Ocean . However, they later called themselves Sworn In.

The EP Catharsis was released in April of the same year and was financed out of pocket. The EP Start / End was released a year later via We Are Triumphant . On August 20, 2013, the debut album The Death Card was released worldwide via Razor & Tie . It was produced by the band and mixed by Brian Hood.

In May and June 2013, the group played a US concert tour as the opening act for For the Fallen Dreams . Other bands on the Some Things Never Change tour were Hundredth , Gideon and Upon This Dawning . The band also played on Bleeding Through's farewell tour in the States. Between late November and early December 2013, the group toured the east coast of the United States with Within the Ruins . Immediately afterwards the group played a short concert tour as headliners through Canada . In mid-December, three concerts with Like Moths to Flames were planned. Finally, between December 19 and 22, 2013, a mini-tour was planned as the opening act for Vanna . The group toured with Oceano , King Conquer and The Last Ten Seconds of Life .

In January and February 2014, the group went on a US concert tour with This or the Apocalypse , Shai Hulud and Sirens and Sailors . The Mosh Lives Tour , organized annually by Emmure , followed in March and April 2014 . On this concert tour Sworn In appeared together with Gideon , Thy Art Is Murder and Volumes as the opening act for Emmure. Immediately after this concert tour, the band played six shows with Thy Art Is Murder in Canada. In May the group first came to the UK and Europe for a concert tour. The band could be seen in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Austria and Poland. Here Lies a Warning and InArchives were engaged as opening act .

In July and August 2014, the group opened up for For the Fallen Dreams , I See Stars , The Acacia Strain , For All Those Sleeping and Slaves on the annual All Stars Tour. Immediately following the All Stars Tour, the group played four headline shows in the United States. Between November and December the group could be seen with Crown the Empire and Like Moths to Flames as support act for Atilla on the Monser Outbreak Tour .

In February 2015 it was announced that the band's second album, The Lovers / The Devil , would be released in April of that year via Razor & Tie . Six days earlier, the group released Sunshine, the album's first single about Vevo . In North America, the album was released on April 7, 2015, while in Europe it will be released about a month later. Within the first week, the album sold almost 3,000 times in the USA.

With I Declare War and The Plot in You , the band headlined the United States and Canada in March and April to promote their album. As part of The Mosh Lives Tour , which was supposed to take place between May 1st and 29th, 2015, Sworn In would have appeared on the European continent for the second time as the opening act for Thy Art Is Murder , Caliban and Emmure . However, the tour was canceled in April 2015 due to the health of Emmure singer Frankie Palmeri. On March 25, 2015, singer Tyler Dennen announced that he was no longer able to take part in his band's North American tour with Carnifex and Chelsea Grin due to health problems . That same month the group was confirmed for the Mayhem Festival , led by Slayer . The tour takes place between June and August 2015 in the United States and Canada.

Music style and lyrics

The musicians are inspired by groups like Slipknot , Korn , Meshuggah but also by Bring Me the Horizon and Thrice . Ray van Horn Jr. from Blabbermouth.net lists the examples given by the musicians as well as groups such as The Chariot and the early Norma Jean . Compared to the two EPs, the sound of the group has been almost completely redesigned. According to the musicians, the sound is “darker” and therefore “more malicious” than before.

In their - often pessimistic - texts, which deal mainly with topics such as death , delusion and loss of senses, the musicians process exclusively personal experiences of the musicians that they have experienced themselves. It is noticeable that singer Tyler Dennen only works with screaming and only rarely uses growlings .
