Volumes is a metalcore band from Los Angeles , California , which is often associated with the Djent movement.

history

The band started in 2009 as a project by the two guitarists Diego Farias and Daniel Braunstein. After Michael Barr and Diego Farias' brother Gus Farias joined as singers, as well as bassist Raad Soudani and drummer Chris Khoury, the band announced the release of their first EP for December 2009 , which was to be called The Concept of Dreaming . However, the publication of this was delayed and Daniel Braunstein left the band because it was no longer possible for him to actively participate in the band due to his studies at the university. He was replaced by guitarist Daniel Schwartz, but still worked as a producer and technician for the band. At the beginning of November 2010, the band announced that they had signed a recording contract with the US label Mediaskare Records , which released their debut EP The Concept of Dreaming in the middle of the same month .

In early 2011 the band played several tours through North America with, among others, Arsonists Get All the Girls , The Contortionist and Structures . With Via , the band's debut album was released in September 2011 , which was also distributed via Mediaskare Records. In addition, drummer Chris Khoury left the band in the same year, due to which Daniel Schwartz initially took over the drums at the concerts. In early 2012 the band announced that they had found a new, permanent drummer in Nick Ursich. Between April and May 2012, the band toured Europe together alongside bands like Veil of Maya , Betraying the Martyrs and Vildhjarta . In the same year Daniel Schwartz left the band to devote himself entirely to his band Challenger , which he founded with Jackson Thompson from Black Sheep Wall . Between January and February 2013 the band toured the United States with Of Mice & Men , Woe, Is Me and Capture the Crown .

Former guitarist Diego Farias died on February 6, 2020 under unknown circumstances. He resigned from the band just a few days earlier after his brother Gus was excluded from the group.

style

The instrumental parts of the songs are written by founder and guitarist Diego Farias, while the two singers Michael Barr and Gus Farias write the corresponding lyrics. These are mostly about personal experiences and topics that they want to draw attention to with their texts.
