history

2009–2011: Foundation and debut album Of Mice & Men

Of Mice & Men at a gig in Tempe ( Arizona ) in 2010

Of Mice & Men was founded by Austin Carlile and the New Zealand musician Jaxin Hall ( electric bass ) in Costa Mesa. Hall lived at this time in Columbus ( Ohio ). Together with the underground band Though She Wrote , the two musicians recorded their demo Seven Thousand Miles for What? In the Paper Tiger Studios in Columbus . on. Carlile and Halls searched for other musicians for months and found them in Valentino Arteaga ( drums , lower definition ), Jonathan Kintz ( electric guitar , Odd Project ) and Phil Manansala (electric guitar), who was already a tour musician with A Static Lullaby had played.

Austin Carlile and Jaxin Hall moved to Southern California to work with the new musicians. Shortly after Jonathan Kintz joined the band, he was kicked out of the band due to personal differences and replaced by Shayley Bourget. After reaching a million views within just two months of opening the MySpace channel, the band recorded a cover version of Poker Face with Tom Denney , the former guitarist of A Day to Remember . This demo was sent to Rise Records , which signed the group shortly afterwards.

On July 14th, 2009 the group flew to Connersville to record their debut album with Joey Sturgis at Foundation Studios . The group shot the music videos for Those in the Glass Houses and Second & Sebring in Ventura . Second & Sebring had its television premiere on the program Headbangers Ball on March 15, 2010. On March 9, 2010, their self-titled debut album was released. The group wanted to release the album in February and had to postpone the release date due to several technical problems. Among other things, fans had hacked the group's site.

Jerry Roush, interim singer for the band, in 2010

The group was quickly integrated into the line-up of the Squash the Beef Tour . The band toured with Dance Gavin Dance , Emarosa , Of Machines and Tides of Man . In 2009 Of Mice & Men was a support band for the Atticus Tour with Finch ; Blessthefall ; Drop Dead, Gorgeous ; Vanna and Let's Get It . Immediately after the Atticus tour, the band was part of the Leave It to the Suits tour with We Came as Romans , I See Stars and Broadway .

Due to a heart operation Carlile had to leave the band in the meantime. His doctor had forbidden him to do The Emptiness Tour (with Alesana , The Word Alive , A Skylit Drive and We Came as Romans). His replacement musician was Jerry Roush of the now defunct band Sky Eats Airplane . Carlile, however, did not return to the band after surviving rehab, as he was in the meantime involved in a personal conflict with the other members of the band. So Jerry Roush became the group's permanent singer. After The Emptiness Tour, the group was with Emmure , Pierce the Veil and In Fear and Faith support for Attack Attack! on their This Is a Family Tour . On August 23, 2010, Jaxin left Hall Of Mice & Men to focus on his personal life and his Love Before Glory clothing brand . Dane Poppin from A Static Lullaby jumped in at short notice for a tour as bassist.

The group can be found in the Punk Goes… series on Punk Goes Pop 3 with the cover of Blame It by Jamie Foxx . It's the only studio version of a song that features Jerry Roush as the band's vocalist. The group first played on the Warped Tour in 2010 . Shortly after the Warped Tour ended, the group played a tour of the UK with Blessthefall and August Burns Red .

2011–2012: Carliles Re-entry and The Flood

After nine months the band split from singer Jerry Roush and announced that Austin Carlile would join the group again. Carlile was about to start a new music project, but the request to get back into the band came before him. After Poppin had to go back to A Static Lullaby , Shayley Bourget - who was already working for the band as guitarist - now became bassist . The group began studio work on their second album in late January 2011. Shortly after Of Mice & Men finished the work, the band toured with Sleeping with Sirens , Woe, Is Me , I Set My Friends on Fire and The Amity Affliction as part of the Artery Across the Nation Tour . This was followed by a tour of Australia with The Amity Affliction, Deez Nuts and I Killed the Prom Queen . The group then went on a four-day concert tour of the UK with Asking Alexandria and While She Sleeps .

On May 13, 2011, the first single from the new album Still YDG'n was released . Another single, Purified, was released eleven days later . Purified is on the Warped Tour 2011 compilation by SideOneDummy . The album The Flood was released on June 14, 2011. The group played again in 2011 on the Warped Tour. In September and October 2011 Of Mice & Men appeared with Miss May I , Texas in July and Close to Home in the opening act for the group We Came as Romans on their I'm Alive tour . After that, the group headlined the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour , which featured Iwrestledabearonce , I See Stars , Abandon All Ships and That's Outrageous! was accompanied. For the Fallen Dreams were part of the tour's line-up during the first half of the tour.

On February 9, 2012, Shayley Bourget left the group. Reasons for Shayley's departure were an alcohol problem and a diagnosed depression . The musicians had previously announced that they would move into the studio in 2012 to record the third album. On July 24, 2012, The Flood was reissued with a bonus CD. For the Warped Tour 2012, Aaron Pauley from Jamies's Elsewhere played as bassist, who later became a permanent musician within the band.

2012–2016: Restoring Force

On December 4, 2012, the group announced on Facebook that they were working on demos for the third album. In February and March 2013 the group played in Australia as part of the Soundwave Festival . In June 2013, the musicians and producer David Bendeth moved into a recording studio in New Jersey . On October 1, 2013, the recordings on the album were completed and the mixing of the album began. On November 17, 2013 it was announced that all work on the album had been completed. On December 1, 2013, the group presented their first single from the new album. The title is You Are Not Alone . In addition, the group started the pre-sale phase for their third album, which is called Restoring Force . The album was released worldwide on January 28, 2014. Just one day later, the album entered the British album charts at number 17. In Australia, the album even positioned itself in the top ten, at number 9. In the United States alone, Restoring Force sold around 50,000 times in the first week after the album was released , according to Billboard . There the album even rose to fourth place with a total of 51,000 records sold in the first week of sales.

Between February 3, 2014 and March 28, 2014 the group was seen with Bring Me the Horizon on an extensive concert tour through the United States and Canada . A mini European concert tour with Issues and Beartooth will follow in April . In June, the group was seen for the first time on Rock am Ring and Rock im Park . Of Mice & Men was also booked for With Full Force and Vainstream Rockfest . However, the group had to cancel their appearances at Summer Breeze , Pukkelpop and Elbriot due to their singer's health problems. After the concerts through Europe, the group flew back to the USA to take part in the further course of the Warped Tour . The group has been confirmed for the concerts between July 8th and August 3rd, 2014.

Aaron Pauley at Rock am Ring 2014

Of Mice & Men were booked on July 8, 2014 as the opening act for Linkin Park 's European arena tour , which took place between November 3 and 23, 2014. This concert tour went through Switzerland , the United Kingdom , the Netherlands , Germany , France and Austria . During the current tour with Linkin Park, the band completed three headlining shows with Crossfaith and Coldrain in Münster , Wiesbaden and Luxembourg . In January and February 2015 Of Mice & Men was also to appear in the opening act on Linkin Park's North American tour. Rise Against was confirmed as a further opening act . However, after three concerts, the tour was canceled due to an injury to Chester Bennington . Immediately afterwards the band could be seen in the UK. At the end of April, the band started a concert tour through the United States with Crown the Empire and Volumes with performances at Rock on the Range , Rock in Rio and Rocklahoma , which should end on June 7, 2015. However, the performance at SOMA in San Diego , California on June 7th had to be canceled due to the singer being hospitalized. An appearance in Mexico City was also affected.

2016: Live at Brixton , Cold World and Carliles second exit

Austin Carlile at Rock im Park 2016

On May 27, 2016, Live at Brixton, the band's first live album, was released. The concert that was recorded for this DVD took place in March 2015. One day after the release of the live album, the band played their first concerts of 2016 at the Slam Dunk Festival, which was due, among other things, to another heart operation on singer Austin Carlile. It was announced in February that Of Mice & Men would play with Marilyn Manson in the opening act of Slipknot on their USA concert tour between June 9th and August 5th, 2016 . On June 18, 2016, Carlile was rushed to the hospital for another heart operation.

On June 27, 2016, Cold World was announced as the fourth studio album for September 9, 2016. The music video for the piece Pain was released on the same day .

From December 10th to 18th, 2016, the band played as the main opening act for A Day to Remember in Australia . Before that, the group was supposed to play an extensive concert tour through several European countries between September 30th and October 25th, 2016. The tour was canceled on October 9th due to health problems of the singer Austin Carlile. The day before, the band had to end their concert in Portsmouth prematurely.

On December 30, 2016, Austin Carlile left the band due to ongoing heart problems. He announced this in an official statement. The group decided not to look for a new singer, so bassist Aaron Pauley, who has been with the band since 2012, took over the position of singer at Of Mice & Men.

Since 2017: Defy and Earthandsky

On April 24th and May 22nd, 2017 the group released their first two singles with Unbreakable and Back to Me, with Pauley as the front singer. In November the third single Warzone was released and at the same time the album Defy was announced for January of the following year. This was followed by the release of two more singles, the second single being a cover version of the song Money by Pink Floyd , before the album was released on January 19, 2018. Shortly afterwards, the group went on a North American tour that was completed between February 2 and March 3, 2018 and was accompanied by Blessthefall , Cane Hill and Fire from the Gods .

In October 2018, Aaron Pauley announced they were working on a new album with producer Josh Wilbur, who is known for his work with Lamb of God . Between February 14 and June 26, 2019, the group released three singles. One of them is called Night Terror and is a musical collaboration with producer Kayzo and musician Yultron. In July, their sixth studio album Earthandsky was released for September 27, 2019.

In August 2019 Of Mice & Men played for the first time at Wacken Open Air . At the beginning of June 2020, the band should appear for the third time after 2014 and 2016 at the sister festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park . However, in the wake of the worldwide rampant COVID-19 pandemic, all major events were banned by the federal government and canceled as a result.

In mid-June 2020, rape allegations against the former lead singer Austin Carlile became known, which were already several years ago. The band and their guitarist Alan Ashby each published a statement in which they specifically distanced themselves from Carlile.
