Alesana is an American post-hardcore band formed in Raleigh , North Carolina in October 2004 .

history

Alesana on the Vans Warped Tour 2010

Alesana was the first band to sign a record deal with Tragic Hero Records in 2005 . In June 2005 they released their debut EP Try This With Your Eyes Closed there , which sold almost 3,000 times within the next year. The album On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax , released in 2006, contains numerous references to Greek mythology and the Middle Ages . The title alludes to the saga of Icarus , whose wax wings melted when he got too close to the sun. After the album sold as well as the EP, Fearless Records became aware of the band and signed them in late 2006.

Her second album was released on June 3, 2008. It is called Where Myth Fades To Legend . It was produced by Steve Evetts ( He Is Legend , A Static Lullaby , Still Remains ) and consists of 13 tracks. In this album, the lyrics focus on human relationships.

Alesana's third studio album was released on January 26, 2010 and is called "The Emptiness" (in German: The Empty). It was produced by Kris Crummett (including Emarosa , Dance Gavin Dance ). Milke explained that the album is based on a little story he wrote himself. Both Milke and Lee have a penchant for horror and love stories, so they wrote the album together. Each track is seen here as a small chapter of a story, so the album can be called a concept album . The story is about a draftsman in the English city of Slough at the turn of the 20th century. One day he wakes up next to his murdered wife, Annabel. The terrible love story with many twists and turns unfolds from there. Alesana was inspired by the poem Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe .

Shawn's sister, Melissa Milke , sings and speaks the female parts on the piano pieces (e.g. Third Temptation of Paris, As you wish, Vestige) and on some other songs (e.g. Curse of the Virgin Canvas or Goodbye, Goodnight, For Good).

Adam Fisher speaks the interludes on the album "The Emptiness".

On January 25, 2011, the sextet signed a contract with the Californian punk label Epitaph Records . The album A Place Where The Sun Is Silent was released there on October 21, 2011 in Germany . The album includes a short story written by Shawn Milke and Dennis Lee and is based on Dante's Inferno.

On August 19, 2012, Alex Torres announced via his Twitter account that he had been kicked out of the band for personal reasons. A little later it was announced that former guitarist Jake Campbell would fill in for the US tour, but guitarist Patrick said Alesana would continue as a 5-piece band. In August 2013 the group toured Australia. Save the Clock Tower was booked as the opening act .
