Abandon All Ships is a trancecore band from Toronto , Ontario , Canada, founded in 2006 .

The group released an EP, four singles and two albums on Underground Operations , supported by Universal Music Canada , on Rise Records and, since 2013, on Redfield Records . The band broke up in September 2014, but announced their return in February 2016 with a new single.

history

The beginnings

Abandon All Ships was founded by Angelo Aita ( Screamings ), David Stephens ( lead guitar , backing vocals ), Francesco Pallotta ( electric bass ), Martin Broda ( vocals , drums ) and Sebastian Cassisi-Nunez ( synthesizer , keyboard ) in 2006 in Toronto , Ontario . The band originally covered pieces by the rock band Norma Jean .

In 2008 there were four demo tracks called Megawacko , When Dreams Become Nightmares , Brendon's Song and Pedestrians Is Another Word for Speedbump . These contained elements of Mathcore , with When Dreams Become Nightmares especially worth mentioning. After the group became more and more famous in the music scene in Toronto, the band was allowed to play with national scene greats such as Silverstein .

The group quickly made a name for itself on the Internet via Myspace . An appearance in the series Disband on the Canadian television station MuchMusic also helped the band to further increase its popularity on a national level.

Debut album

In early 2010, the group signed record deals with Underground Operations , Rise Records and Velocity Records . On June 29, 2010, the single Take One Last Breath was released. This is a new recording of Pedestrians Is Another Word for Speedbump . A music video was released the same day. Shortly before, the band toured the United States with A Skylit Drive and I Set My Friends on Fire at 19 concerts. The group toured nationally for the first time in March 2010.

Abandon All Ships played at the Ottawa Bluesfest in 2010 , where the group played new songs for the first time, including Guardian Angel , in which Lena Katina from tATu can be heard. Megawacko 2.0 is the second single released on August 24, 2010. On October 5, 2010, the group released their debut album Geeving . Their first notable international tour took place between October 29, 2010 to December 5, 2010. There the band played with Sleeping with Sirens , Bury Tomorrow and The Crimson Armada as opening act for Miss May I on their Monument Tour .

Casting difficulties and second album

In January 2011, guitarist Kyler Browne announced that he was leaving the group due to personal problems. Daniel Ciccotelli was quickly integrated into the band as a guitarist. This was followed by appearances on the Warped Tour , but only in the eastern United States of America .

On July 14th, the Paiano brothers Andrew and Daniel announced that they were leaving the band. Initially, the reasons for their decision were unclear. Later it turned out that the two had been kicked out of the band because of personal differences between them and the other musicians. Shortly thereafter, Andrew and Daniel Paiano joined as musicians with Woe, Is Me , who were also under contract with Velocity Records until their split in September 2013 .

In January 2012 the group announced that they were in the studio to record a new album. This is titled Infamous and was released on July 3, 2012. It rose for the first time in the official US charts , where it reached number 142 and lasted for a week. The band played the entire Scream It Like You Mean It tour, then played a concert tour of Canada as support for We Came as Romans . Then the group headlined their own Canada tour. In December 2012, drummer Chris Taylor announced his retirement after being unhappy with his role within the band.

In March and April 2013 the group toured with Dream On, Dreamer , For the Fallen Dreams and No Bragging Rights . The concert tour went through Germany , Belgium , the Netherlands , Poland , Austria , Italy , Switzerland and the United Kingdom . It is the second European tour after 2011 as the band on The Artery Across the Nation Europe Tour with Miss May I , Chelsea Grin and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! traveled the continent. In May 2013 it was announced that the musicians would be working on their third album. Geeving and Infamous were reissued in Europe via Redfield Records after the label officially introduced the band. It was also speculated whether the former guitarist Kyler Browne would be active again with Abandon All Ships.

Third album Malocchio and Dissolution

On February 11, 2014, the group's third album was released via Redfield Records . On August 15, 2014, the group announced its breakup. Accordingly, the group will split up at the end of September 2014.

reunion

On February 6, 2016, the band released the song Loafting on YouTube . It was also announced that the original line-up and former Woe, Is-Me singer Andrew Paiano would return for a concert on March 18, 2016 in Toronto. At this concert the album Geeving will be performed in full.

style

music

The band's music can primarily be described as metalcore and post-hardcore with traditional screeched and auto-tuned clean vocals mixed with elements of Eurodance . The group is seen as a representative of the crabcore movement. There are also influences from punk , trance , hard trance , electro , electropop , synthpop , dance-pop and dubstep . Occasionally you can also find elements of mathcore (in harder pieces), R&B and rap (in quiet pieces).

Texts

Few texts contain words from the Guido , the slang language of the Italian-Americans. Even if many of the lyrics have a vulgar language, the group is often said to have a tendency towards Christianity , which the musicians deny.
