Chelsea Grin is an American deathcore band.
history
Chelsea Grin was founded in Salt Lake City / Utah in 2007 under the name AHAZIAH , the band received its current name in March 2009. The founders are singer Alex Koehler and guitarist Chris Kilbourn. Then came bassist Austin Marticorena, guitarist Mike Stafford and drummer Andrew Carlston. Marticonera and Carlston wrote the first songs.
The group signed a contract with Statik Factory . Their first publication took place in July 2008.
Later, Kory Shilling took over the drums instead of Carlston. Davis Pugh was also brought to the band as bassist, Harmond was again interim guitarist of the group in 2009 after Chris Kilbourn left them. In April 2009 Shilling was again replaced by Carlston on drums. When the band began working on their demo successor, David Pugh was replaced by David Flinn. Pugh became the third guitarist.
In June 2009, Chelsea Grin gave a quick tour of Canada , where the band as opening act of Arsonists Get All the Girls , A Plea for Purging , The Agonist and its subsequent label mates Attila acted. After this successful tour, Harmond eventually became a permanent member of the group. The band recorded the album Desolation Of Eden . A week before recording began, Pugh decided to leave the group and was replaced by Dan Jones. The band signed a contract with Artery Recordings while they were still recording .
After the recordings of the album were completed, the group went together with Dr. Acula , American Me and Attila were on their first tour across the United States . On February 26th, Desolation Of Eden was released. The album debuted at number 26 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart and sold 1,500 copies in the first week after release. Following the album's success, the album received positive reviews in the alternative press , Utah newspapers, and national and international media. Two songs from the album, Cheyne Stokes and Recreant could also be heard on the demo. The album was sold around 15,000 times worldwide.
A video was shot for Sonnet of the Wretched showing the band at a concert. This took place on June 4th, 2009 in Orangvale / California . Recordings were made there, which were then designed for the later video. The premiere was three days later, on June 7th. A second video was shot during a concert with Iwrestledabearonce , Eyes Set to Kill , The Chariot and Vanna . The date for the video premiere is still unclear, however.
In August 2010, singer Alex Koehler injured his jaw during the Thrash and Burn Tour , so the band decided to cancel the rest of the tour and bring Koehler to surgery, where he was operated on. The band decided to tour Canada again with the groups Attila and Blind Witness . Since Koehler had to lie in hospital for between six and eight weeks at this point, Adam Warren from Oceano acted as singer during the tour.
In February 2011 another tour through the USA started, in which the group played together with Whitechapel , The Acacia Strain , Veil of Maya , For Today , Motionless in White and other bands. On July 19, 2011, the new album My Damnation was released . The band then went on tour, including playing together with blessthefall in the opening act for Asking Alexandria on the Still Reckless Tour in early 2012.
In late 2011, lead guitarist Mike Stafford split from the band. One of the reasons he gave was that he couldn't stand the many tours anymore. He was replaced by Jason Richardson, who had recently been released from Born of Osiris . Pablo Viveros has been playing the drums since 2012.
On September 22, 2015, the band announced on their Facebook page that they were separating from their guitarist Jason Richardson. The reasons given were various views on the musical future of the band. As a replacement for Richardson, long-time friend of Chelsea Grin Stephen Rutishauser was added to the band.
Change to Rise Records and a new album
On January 19, 2016, the group announced their move to Rise Records .
On May 4th, 2016 the band announced that they would release a new studio album on July 1st, 2016 called Self Inflicted . At the same time as this announcement, a song from the new album entitled Clickbait was also released . It was also announced that the song Skin Deep , released on December 11, 2015, will be part of Self Inflicted .
In April 2018 it was announced that singer Alex Koehler had left the band for health reasons and was replaced by Tom Barber , the front man of Lorna Shore . On the day of this announcement, the single Dead Rose was also announced, which can be found on the new album Eternal Nightmare .
New album 2018
The new album The Eternal Nightmare was released on July 12, 2018 . As a result, they started a European tour with Oceano , Kublai Khan (metalcore band) and Enterprise Earth, which will last until the end of 2018.
Band name
The name Chelsea Grin is derived from Glasgow Smile , it is a torture method that was created in Glasgow, Scotland. The cover of the EP Evolve shows what this might have looked like.
Texts
The band turns in their lyrics against prostitution , which is why you the tape because of the brutality in these texts misogyny nachsagt. The lyrics on her debut album also criticize religion , as in the song Desolation of Eden.

- Bassist David Flinn was surprisingly removed from the list of the US Army , so that no new musician had to be looked for.
