Vanna

Vanna (born September 1, 1970 in Koprivnica , Yugoslavia , now Croatia ; born Ivana Ranilović , now Ivana Ranilović-Vrdoljak ) is a Croatian pop singer.

In addition to numerous awards such as the Porin 1999 and 2000 as the best Croatian singer, she also won the Croatian music festival Dora 2001, which is used as the Croatian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest and took part in this competition for Croatia.

Life

As a child at the age of 10, Vanna took part in talent shows. She attends the Koprivnica Music School. In 1989 she moved to Zagreb to study English at the Philosophical Faculty in Zagreb. In 1990 she won the Zagreb Festival and subsequently became the background singer of the group Boa, which appeared as the opening act for David Bowie in the Croatian Maksimir Stadium in front of 60,000 spectators. In the same year she joined the hitherto unknown band Electro Team , or ET for short. Boytronic , Da'Real , Skyrocker and DJ Fresh Jay and Vanna land their first hit with Molitva za mir (A Prayer for Peace). The song deals with Croatia's war of independence and asks for a peaceful solution to the conflict. In 1993 ET had the greatest success to date with Tek je dvanaest sati (It's only twelve o'clock) and has since been considered a co-founder of Croatian dance music. ET produce music ala SNAP! and musically could best be assigned to the dance floor .

After numerous successful albums, the band split in 1998, as Vanna no longer sees her own musical line in the dance genre, which was already announced on the last two albums. In the same year their album I to sam ja , which shows clear jazz influences and is completely in English, is released. Shortly thereafter, the album Ispod istog neba was released , which was selling very well. In 2000 she released the album Dvadesetičetiri sata (Twenty-four hours), which included the winning song of the Zadar Festival 2000 Daj mi jedan dobar razlog (Give me a good reason) and the second-placed song at Dora 2000 Kao rijeka (Like a river) . Both songs are among the hits of the year.

Due to the great success, a live album Vanna u Lisinskom (Vanna in the Vatroslav Lisinski Hall ) follows in 2001. Before that, however, she won Dora with Strings of my heart , which was composed by Tonči Huljić ; she was heavily pregnant on stage, which caused criticism in the media. In Copenhagen she took 10th place in the Eurovision Song Contest, shortly after the birth. Her family was also the reason for her break from 2002. In 2003 she reported back with the album Hrabra kao prije (Brave as ever ) and won the Zadar Festival with Kao da me nema . The song Bozic bili became the theme song for the films and TV series Duga mračna noć . In 2005 a biography was published by Antonela Marušić . Once again a live album and live DVD will be released: Vanna s prijateljima u Lisinskom (Vanna with friends in the Lisinski Hall). Nina Badrić , Jacques Houdek , Oliver Dragojević and Ivana Kindl appear as live guest performances . Vanna and Nina Badrić have always been portrayed as rivals by the Croatian press. To revoke this, Vanna sang her song Čarobno jutro and her song Ti se varaš together with Nina at her concerts . They are currently recording a Croatian version of Mariah Carey's and Whitney Houston's When you believe (Kad ljubav pobijedi).
