Tonči Huljić (born October 29, 1961 in Split , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian musician , songwriter and record producer .

Career

Huljić made a name for himself in the late 1970s as the founder and key member of the pop band Dalmatinski Magazin, which was later renamed Magazin . The band quickly became one of the most popular Croatian pop bands, whose musical style was influenced by Dalmatian folk music.

In the 1990s, after the fall of Yugoslavia , Huljić was one of the first Croatian musicians to introduce elements of folk music from other former Yugoslav republics into their repertoire. Although many critics did not like this and Huljić was accused of integrating turbo-folk into the Croatian music scene, Magazin was arguably the most popular music group in Croatia at the time . The magazine's popularity, and thus that of Huljić himself, continued in the republics of the former Yugoslavia, just as it did before the war.

At that time, Huljić showed great management skills and founded the Tonika record label, which is one of the most influential in Croatia. Huljić has also written popular pieces for Croatian pianist Maksim Mrvica such as Kolibre and Nostradamus, as well as Mrvica's greatest success Croatian Rhapsody .

In 2006 Huljić released his first solo album called Waterland.

He was a member of the jury during the second season of X Factor Adria .
