Jacques Houdek (born April 14, 1981 in Velika Gorica as Željko Houdek ) is a Croatian singer who became known mainly because of his many participations in the Croatian preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest .

life and career

Jacques was born in 1981 as Željko Houdek in the Croatian city of Velika Gorica near Zagreb . He married Brigita Krkač (* 1982/3) in 2006 and has two children: Sofija (* 2005/6) and David (* 2013).

Houdek first took part in the DORA festival in 2002 , which also serves as the Croatian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest. He reached twelfth place out of twenty participants with the song Čarolija . The following year he tried it with Na krilima ljubavi , which earned him fifth place out of twelve. He was able to improve this result again in 2004 with Nema razloga when he finished fourth out of twelve. With Nepobjediva he reached fourth place out of fourteen participants in 2005. At DORA 2006, Umrijeti s osmjehom was only fifteen out of sixteen participants. He made the next attempt in 2011. This year there were only two participants, each performing three songs. But he succumbed. In the following years, participation was either waived or the participant was selected internally. Finally, Houdek was selected internally to represent Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 . The name of the song was later announced and is My Friend . The title was composed by himself together with Tony Roberth Malm and Siniša Reljić . He wrote the text together with Arjana Kunštek , Fabrizio Laucella and Ines Prajo . The song was released on March 2nd and reached number 13 in the final of the competition.

In 2011, Houdek was chosen by the Zagreb Pride for statements such as "You cannot equate the homosexual and lesbian population with other citizens because it means a return to Sodom and Gomorrah " or that same-sex partnerships are "sick" in the homophobic category Nominated a decade after winning Homophobe of the Year in 2005.
