Boris Novković (born December 25, 1967 in Sarajevo , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian singer and composer.

biography

Novković was born the son of the composer Đorđe Novković and the music teacher Ozena Novković. Between the ages of 12 and 15, the current singer played football as a member of the junior football club Dinamo Zagreb .

Boris Novković is married to Lucija in his second marriage and lives in Zagreb .

Career

In 1986, at the age of 18, he released his first album called Kuda idu izgubljene djevoke (Tamara) , named after his first hit single, which Boris himself wrote and composed. Both the album, which sold 120,000 copies, and the single became a success and helped the singer achieve his musical breakthrough in what was then Yugoslavia.

Just a year later, Novković's second studio album, Jači od sudbine , was released, produced by Niksa Bratos . The album surpassed the success of its predecessor, with 160,000 copies sold, it is also the singer's most commercially successful album to date. The singles Poster ću sutra and Da te nisam ljubio in particular became a hit.

In 1988 the third album was released with the title Dok svira radio . The single of the same name was successful again.

In 1999 the singer was nominated for the most important Croatian music award Zlatna Ptica in the category of best artist .

In 2002 he won the Kristalna gitara music prize , awarded by Croatia Records , for over 500,000 albums sold between 1986 and 2002.

Eurovision Song Contest

Boris Novković took part several times in both the Yugoslav and later the Croatian preliminary decision ("DORA") for the Eurovision Song Contest .

In 2005 and 2006 Boris Novković qualified for participation in the international competition, in 2005 he took 4th place in the semifinals and 11th place in the final.

Novković submitted the title "Raduj se" for DORA 2009, but withdrew it from the competition a little later because he could not find a suitable singer. In May 2009 Novković published this title as "Nek se raduje" in a duet with Tony Cetinski.
