Severina Kojić (* 21st April 1972 in Split , SFR Yugoslavia as Severina Vuckovic ) better known by her first name, Severina is a Croatian pop - singer .

Life

Severina is known by her first name, but is sometimes called Seve nacionale there due to her popularity in Croatia . Her real name is Severina Kojić , since she married the Serbian soccer goalkeeper Igor Kojić (* 1987) in October 2015 .

Severina spent all of her school days in Split. After eight years in elementary school, she enrolled in the “Glazbena Skola Josipa Hatzea”. She dropped out of school after a short time due to her music career.

Career

At the age of 17 she released her debut album Severina . The song Djevojka sa sela became the anthem of Croatian football fans at the 1998 World Cup . This was followed in 1999 by the album Ja samo pjevam, which was sold more than 50,000 times. In 2001/02 she carried out her successful Virujen-u-te tour in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina .

In 2004, a ten-year-old, eleven-minute private video by Severina appeared on the Internet in which she can be seen having sex with a married man. Until then, Severina's image was characterized by religious abstinence. Vučković tried in vain to prevent the video from being distributed. Outside of the former Yugoslavia, the video gave her a boost in popularity.

Transnational success

In 2006 she won the Dora Festival with the song Moja štikla ("My High Heeled Shoe") and represented Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), where she came 12th with 56 points. The selection of a turbo-folk song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was a heated discussion in the Croatian public, especially since Goran Bregović, a producer who describes himself as Yugoslav, was responsible for the arrangement. Musicians and politicians asked whether such a contribution could adequately represent Croatia.

In 2001 Severina was one of the first Croatian artists to address the Serbian market after the breakup of Yugoslavia when she performed at Đorđe Balašević's concert in Novi Sad ( Serbia ). Severina is also very popular in Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Macedonia. Numerous concerts and tours regularly take her to Croatia's neighboring countries.

In 2016 Severina had a number one hit in Croatia with Sta je svit , a duet with Goran Karan .

Film career

Severina also took part in films and plays . Mention should be made here of the monodrama Čekajući svog čovika, the musical Karolina Riječka and the piece Glembajevi .

In 2004 she played the leading role in the mockumentary Gdje je nestala Slovenija? (“Where did Slovenia go?”). In the film, she plays the spokeswoman for the Croatian Main News, who reports that Slovenia disappeared in the South Pacific on the day it joined the EU.

Severina also stood in front of the camera for the Bosnian film Duhovi Sarajeva .

Trivia

  • Severina and Danijela Martinović , who joined the ESC for Croatia in 1998, attended the same school class.
  • Three artists have already dedicated a song to Severina. Rapper Edo Maajka released the song Severina on his album Stigo Ćumur in 2006 . Also DJ Krmak wrote her a song called Severina, which on his album DJ Krmak & Dream Team appeared. Jacques Houdek parodies Severina with his title Mala je dala from the album Carolija . Severina also has a song called Mala je dala:
  • Alka Vuica's song Bolje bi ti bilo (“It would be better for you”) contains the line Ma koja Severina, ja sam ljuta paprika (“What Severina, I am a hot paprika”) based on the Severina mania in Croatia.
