The Chariot was a Christian mathcore band from Douglasville , Georgia .

Band history

The Chariot was founded in 2003 by former Norma Jean singer Josh Scogin . At the beginning the band also consisted of singer and guitarist Keller Harbin, guitarist Tony Medina, bassist Joshua Beiser and drummer Jeff Carter. In May 2004 the band signed with Solid State Records , a label that specializes in Christian metal , metalcore and hardcore punk . In 2004 the debut album Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead, and Nothing Is Bleeding was released . After the live DVD Ladies and Gentleman , Medina and Carter left the band. The Extended Play Unsung was recorded with Mark Nicks as the new drummer . Nicks was replaced shortly afterwards by Jake Ryan. Even before the album The Fiancée could be completed, Harbin and Beiser left The Chariot. Harbin joined the southern metal band Every Time I Die .

Jon Terrey and Dan Eaton, two new guitarists, were recruited for a large-scale US tour. In April 2007 the second album The Fiancée was finally released with bassist Jon Kindler. Wars and Rumors of Wars followed in 2009 . Scogin was now the only founding member after Jon Terrey left. The Chariot now consisted of Scogin, David Kennedy (bass), Dan Vokey (guitar) and Jonathan (KC Wolf) Kindler (bass) and Bryan Russell Taylor (guitar). In the middle of the year the band went on tour with nine other Christian metal bands. In late November, The Chariot supported the 2009 Explosions Tour of Scogin's former band Norma Jean.

In 2010 The Chariot switched to Good Fight Music and released the album Long Live the Chariot there . In 2011, Brandon Henderson joined Bryan Russell Taylor. The album One Wing followed in August 2012 . After longtime bassist Jon (KC Wolf) Kindler left the band, the band is initially only on the road with four members. Both guitarists played the bass on One Wing . In 2013 the band announced a short farewell tour from October to November. Josh Scogin founded the Noise Punk Project '68 after The Chariot broke up .

Music genre

The Chariot play Mathcore with English, but partly also Spanish texts. The music is sometimes referred to as "Chaotic Hardcore" because it largely dispenses with conventional song structures and relies on heaviness and speed. Although the group is close to Christianity , they try not to preach in their texts. Instead, the lyrics depict an often painful view of the world and try to portray Christianity as a way out of this desolation.

On the second album The Fiancée , the group also used elements from Christian music. A sacred harp (Christian choral music from the southern United States) can be heard on two of the songs .
