Finch is an American rock band from Temecula , which can be assigned to post-hardcore or alternative rock .

Band history

Finch were founded in the late 1990s, originally as a Deftones - cover band called "Numb". The band brought in guitarist Randy "R2K" Strohmeyer when they signed a deal with Drive-Thru Records . The group then changed their name to Finch and released their first EP Falling Into Place in 2001 . The EP sold over 6,000 copies in the first few months after its release.

What It Is to Burn

In August 2001 they entered Big Fish Studios in Encinitas , California to record the album What it is to burn with producer Mark Trombino ( blink-182 , Jimmy Eat World ) . The album was released on March 12, 2002, the title track later as a single.

Finch contributed with the song Worms of the Earth to the soundtrack of Underworld in. The song was also on the CD Atticus: ... dragging the lake, Vol. 2 , which was published by Atticus Clothing. At this time the band was at the height of their career and soon began writing lyrics for their second album, Say hello to sunshine . Derek Doherty and Randy Strohmeyer were also part of the progressive rock band The Sound of Animals Fighting , who recorded an album while Say hello to sunshine was being made .

Say Hello to Sunshine

The band went through a few changes for the recording of their second album, Say hello to sunshine , such as changing record labels ; on Drive-Thru Records followed MCA Records , which was bought by Geffen Records before the album was released. Founding member and drummer Alex Pappas left the band due to musical differences and later founded the group Redgun Radar . Marc Allen replaced Pappas. The recordings for the album took a long time as the band scrapped a few songs to record new ones. Finch released Say hello to sunshine on June 7, 2005. The first single from the album was Bitemarks & Bloodstains , which they also wrote as the first song for the album. In an interview, Nate Barcalow said that Bitemarks formed the transition between the old and the new sound ("Bitemarks makes the transition between the old and the new sound."). The album reached number 24 on the Billboard charts .

separation

On February 19, 2006 it was announced that the band is currently on hold and that the members of the band are busy with other projects. The break was confirmed a little later with a letter from the band on their then official website. The members of Finch were then largely active in various other projects.

In 2007 the group came together again, but with two line-up changes: Alex Pappas and Derek Doherty were replaced by Drew Marcogliese and Daniel Wonacott. Another EP followed in 2008. In 2010 the band split after an announced third album could not be completed.

In 2013 Finch played an album tour on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the release of What It Is to Burn , which also took them to Germany. The following year they signed a new record deal and released their third album Back to Oblivion .
