history

founding

The Word Alive was created by Craig Mabbitt , the lead singer of Escape the Fate (formerly also with Blessthefall ). The group's co-founders are Zack Hansen ( guitar ) and Tony Pizzuti ( rhythm guitar ), who are active in the bands Calling of Syrens and Clouds Take Shape.

Nick Urlacher ( bass ), Dusty Riach ( keyboard ) and Tony Aguilera ( drums ) joined the founding members . The Word Alive started out as a side project of Escape the Fate lead singer Mabbitt.

The band recorded songs for an EP that was ultimately not released. Mabbitt was later asked by the rest of the group to leave the band. The reason was that the members were dissatisfied with him. After Mabbitt was expelled from the band, he described on his MySpace page that it was never his decision to want to leave the group.

That same year, Tyler "Telle" Smith ( Greeley Estates , In Fear and Faith ) took over the post of lead vocalist. Together, the band continued their work on the EP, which would later be released on Fearless Records .

Empire

In March 2009 the band confirmed that they had signed with a major label. On March 26, it was revealed that it was Fearless Records that the band had offered a contract. On July 21, 2009, Empire was finally released. The EP was recorded by Andrew Wade in Ocala / Florida . Empires made it to number 15 on the Heatseekers charts. After successfully releasing their EP, the group toured with Alesana , A Skylit Drive and Silverstein . In summer 2009 the band headlined the Dreams & Empires tour with We Came as Romans . In October of that year the group toured with Madina Lake , I See Stars and again with Silverstein. The single Battle Royale (part of the Empire EP) has also been quite successful. The track can be found in several music games, including Tap Tap and Rock Band , and the Vans Warped Tour 2010 compilation .

In February 2010 drummer Aguilera left the group and was replaced by Justin Salinas ( Scars of Tomorrow , Catherine ) on drums. Salinas was also a live musician with the band MyChildren MyBride .

On March 23, 2010, the band released a live video entitled The Only Rule Is That There Are No Rules , in which Aguilera was seen one last time. The video premiered on AOL Noisecreep , where it received positive reviews:

"Metal-hardcore act the Word Alive have finally unveiled the video for 'The Only Rule Is That There Are No Rules.' 'We couldn't be happier,' vocalist [Tyler Smith] told Noisecreep on the finished look of the band's first video. For the heavy driven track from the sextet's Empire EP, the obvious choice was to bring eyes and ears to their live show - which has been getting the band quick success for only being a little over a year old. "Our live performance has become a stack of that growth," commented Smith. Rather than having the song play over a performance at the Glasshouse in Pomona, Calif., A full effect approach was taken. 'Our director had the idea of filming the set and intertwining live audio to spice up the clip. "
